It's a very emotive film, and very clear with it's message. From what I understand, it is about to be released in China, with sub titles; that should get an interesting reaction!

As a gentle suggestion, fantastic for spreading the word about the film, but perhaps correct to encourage them to buy a copy of their own, instead of the lending them yours. It doesn't cost much, the price of a couple of pints as someone pointed out. Supporting it in this way will also support Rob Stewart, who self financed the whole production (and landed himself $2 million in the red!)

A very good point and, for the record, I have been telling folks that they should pick up their own copy for around £4. But I'm sure Rob would be happy to see that his message is being spread, regardless.

It's a bit dearer on Blu-ray but the picture is stunning! Fantastic film though and agree very well worth £4

    Hmm, Blue Ray?
Might have to go internet browsing, wouldn't mind watching again with the clearer picture. Thanks.

On same note, this motivated me to go and see them before it's too late.
Deposit paid for Galapagos in October....

Thanks for the recommendation Kev, I bought this from Amazon and watched it yesterday. I knew about the finning from watching Oceans, but this brought home just how many sharks are being killed. Somehow I can't see the general public getting as worked up about sharks as they are about pandas or polar bears, but the film certainly disturbed me. I will (I promise!) write letters and pass on the DVD to my kids' schools so that more people will see it.

As a negative, and it didn't really detract, surely the editor of the film should have fixed the aspect ratio on the sections that weren't widescreen? I fix those on my home videos!

I was given this DVD for Christmas and watched it last night, woke up this morning and it was the first thing on my mind. Just searched YD to see other peoples reactions and found this old thread. I must agree with all the coments made, this is definately worth watching, although 'err indoors' was in tears to see the mutilation and death of some of the animals, as for me, I'm angry and think I will be for some time. Sorry, wanted to bring this thread back to the forefront and remind any YD'ers that havn't seen this that it's worth watching.

I fear educating the chinese is going to be nigh on impossible.

Firstly it is those in power who are the ones consuming this delicacy. The government is far too corrupt to ever change.

Secondly i am not sure that re-education is the issue. Asking students (of all ages) during class about issues such as these they are aware but not interested.

Asking about why sharks, whales and tigers are nearly extinct they just state "because we eat them". No hint of remorse or regret. Just a statement of fact.

The ethos is very much that what we are told by are parent is what is correct and that we have been doing things this way for a long time and it works so why change.

It turned my stomach so regularly to see shops selling massive green turtles as a varnished coffee table.

Educating them will be an almost impossible challenge and international action against them is not a viable option. at any time there are 4 million chinese males in active military service and 40 million males who have recently been in military service.

I am afraid it is a case of coming up against an unstoppable object.
