doaaawww....it's sooo qute! i was playing with one last night, it was a bit on the aggressive side when we first spotted it, u know giving us the fingers but the i did too...so it got confused...then realized that it's just too air breathing clumsy things just looking at it, no harm so it allowed me to touch it... i was facinated with the speed that it changes colours...as soon as my fingers touched it , it turned skin colour, then moved away and changed to sand-rocky colours... it was wicked!

yeah, the one on the rock let me stroke him in the end after 20 mins of sitting watching him.

We see them a lot when we're down in Portland and its great when we've got students in the water - the 2 finger thing seems to work well, but also using your hand to make an impression of the tentacles pulsing seems to get 'em interested.

We were down in Chesil Cove once with some students when I spotted one so I decided to give it some finger waggles to keep the students amused, and over about 5 minutes it got closer and closer, flashing away - then out of the corner of my eye, I noticed one about a meter away at the side of my head watching. Couple of minutes later a student pointed out another one sat in some weeds keeping an eye out - by the end I think we were surrounded by about 5 or 6 of 'em. In the end of it I wasn't sure who was watching who

Cuttlefish

Fantastic pictures.

This year was the first time to see them in the UK for me and have seen them near Littlehampton, Plymouth and Cornwall. I have seen a few cuttlefish this year-the best being 9 all in a row whilst diving off Seghy Rock - Cornwall. They seemed to be watching us more than us watchng them, it was almost as if they were ganging up on us.

I tried the two finger gesture and it does seem to work. But I have never actually touched one of these wonderful creatures.

I saw a cuttlefish in Gosport Marina at the end of July. (I wasn't diving, just walking along a pontoon.) It looked dead as it was floating on the surface next to the walkway in between all the boats. My friend gently touched it, it flashed through a load of colours, turned and went on its way. Do they normally come that close to the surface and to civilisation?

hmm, bit hard to describe but imagine putting your hand out in the stop signal, palm forwards, fingers spread. Bring all your finger tips together while bringing them in towards your palm.

seems to get their attention - mind you, everyone else thinks you look a bit daft
