I'm looking for a late availability - i.e. this thursday or friday, and the Asmaa has availability.

The reports don't sound too great, though. Anyone got a strong recommendation for this boat??

cheers

Well, I will be on it if you go this Thursday! I am going in a group of five, so can guarantee at least a few friendly faces.

I understand that the boat had a refit earlier this year and is much improved. However, I am not really too worried - as long as I have got somewhere to sleep and get a shower and they put some reasonable food on the table, then that is all I need. I get the impression that the boat is fine, just not up to the standards of the new wave of liveaboards like Grand Sea Serpent and Blue Fin - but then the price is substantially lower.

Also, this Thursday's departure is an 8 day trip, so you get an extra days diving over a normal itinerary.

Hope that helps

In seven weeks we will do a liveaboard from Marsa Alam. As we are arriving late I hope to reserve our cabins before hand. Can people inform me about the best cabins for Emperor Asmaa?

Thank!

Usually you can't reserve cabins - at least I've never been able to (or wanted to). They're all ok on the Asmaa anyway. The downstairs ones are all the same, the upstairs ones are a bit smaller but are more convenient and less smelly. If you're a couple you'll want the downstairs ones.

Thanks Lazlo! I have a strong preference for the upstairs’ cabin. I had this the last time on another boat and I like that the most. Do you know if one of guides is occupying one of those top cabins or not?

When I was there the guides had a cupboard round the side - separate from the guests.
