Captain's Inn - El Gouna

Anyone stayed here? If so, what's it like. And, most important of all, what's the diving out of El Gouna like? I think the dive company is called Dive Tribe.

Cheers,
S.

Not stayed at the Captains Inn, but Dive Tribe are based out of the Movenpick hotel and seemed pretty good to me (but then I haven't much to compare them to!)

Their boats are quite large and roomy with not too many people on, so they don't feel cramped. They seem pretty well organised - I had a great time and a guy at work has just come back and had an equally good experience.

Did lots of reef dives for my week, but there are some wrecks around. Plenty of marine life - turtles and dolphins a plenty last week apparently

I dived out of the Movenpick with Dive Tribe last May. The reefs were in lovely condition (except there were some divers who insisted in bouncing off the coral). Boats were spacious, dive guides helpful (if you wanted them). Don't know about the Captains Inn, but the Movenpick wasn't much more expensive and it was really nice (and meant it was a 2 minute walk to the dive centre).

As mentioned it can be a bit quiet, so we weren't able to do night or wreck diving, but there are other centres around that will also do those in worse conditions (we were blown out going to the Thistlegorm but they still went).

The Captains Inn is right in the centre of the Marina, I eat there regularly. On Friday evening there is a big Marina party. ""The English Pub" is just around the corner and a couple of nights a week you will find "Georgina" (YD member and currently diving the south) behind the bar, she will no doubt be another source of information and if you book your diving with the Dive Tribe through her it's cheaper.

The reefs are as anywhere in the Red Sea, There are popular ones that are nice and easy so the guides take you there, often! There are world class reefs that are a little more difficult to get too and dive it depends on the guides and the ability of the other guests on the boat.

The Dive Tribe are a good outfit, very safty concious.

When do you plan on going?

Depending on my buddy, plan to go just prior to Christmas. Sounds good but how likely are we to get to the better sites? I appreciate that it is good practice to take new groups to the battered sites early on to assess skills but don't want to spend a week on such!

Thanks for all comments.

Captains Inn

Not a bad place to stay, comfortable and clean etc. but quite small rooms,
For Diving recomend Either TGI or Dive Tribe for organisation and safety etc. others may offer better rates, but my experience is the service is also reflected in the price.
As for the dive sites, Gouna diving is governed by the wind, the less wind youi have the further afield you will go, but its pot luck with the wind, dosn't really make a difference about the time of year.
And one more tip, make sure you take a 5 mm or thicker suit, Red Sea gets pretty cold at that time of year (21/22)
Hope you enjoy EL Gouna.

Thumbs up

For the past week you would definately have been able to get to the best sites. We have had very light winds and air temperature of around 30 degrees every day and itīs set to continue

Damn it. We were there the 11th to the 18th and it was pretty windy most of the week. The Friday was the best day, and we weren't diving because we were going home
