Florida

Hi, looking to take a holiday in Florida. Would be staying in the clearwater area. Has anyone dived this area? Looks like its mainly freshwater springs diving with a bit of sea further down the coast? Can anyone offer any advice about the area and the type of diving that i can expect.

cheers

John

John,

Steve's pics are a good example of what can be seen in that. I would say that you can do some pretty good diving with just snorkelling. I spent some time based about 90mins to the north near Crystal River, I lost my manatee pics to a flooded camera We also did a mile snorkel in the Rainbow River, fishing birds underwater, turtles - wonderful.

There is also some cave diving about an hour or so further north, I can't remember the name without recourse to my log book. There are others on YD who know more aboout Florida cave anyway.

I didn't do any sea diving, from comments I have read most wrecks are deliberately sunk. I also recently read that the Gulf of Mexico is pretty dead. It is probably worth a look at scubaboard for more local information.

Adrian

Pretty world class for cave diving I'm told, can't wait to get out there myself.
