| Tobago in October I am looking to book a fortnight in Tobago this October - will be hiring a villa in the Crown Point area. I have read a few of the previous trip reports which suggest that the diving is pretty good and nicely varied. However, I would be grateful for any information as to whether October is a good time to go (mainly thinking about hurricanes etc) - I will be taking my 3 year old along so if I can expect lots of rain then it may not be the ideal destination at that time of year. I could possibly push the trip back to November if that would give me a better chance of good weather. Any comments/info much appreciated. |

| I would not want to advise you on weather in that part of the World. Our trip to Grenada a couple years ago was dominated by rain and we were in the middle of the dry season. A couple months later the place was flattened by a hurricane. You could try this though http://www.mytobago.info/weather.php I visited Tobago about 7 years ago in late September and the weather was great. It rained pretty heavily a few times but it never lasted more than 45 minutes and it dries out quickly. We also stayed in Crown Point at a hotel called the Karriwack Village, billed as a holistic haven. I would reccomend dinner there at least once. They grow most of the ingredients in the garden and buy the rest daily. You don't want to be in a hurry to eat though. The diving around the South of the island is allegedly not as good as Charlottesville up North. Unfortunately the state of the road makes transfers impractical. I dived with an outfit called Derek Chung's Undersea Tobago. By far the most professional of the centres I found around Crown Point. He was reccomended by an expat that runs yacht charters. At the time he was the only boat carrying O2 and he went the extra mile to get us on some of the less known sites. Damn funny listening to a Chinese American talking patois too. Have a good trip. It's a dreamy place. |

| Tobago is outside the hurricane belt. You can still catch a mean tropical storm though. The hurricane season should just about be over by then. The diving up around speyside is great, but you are at the opposite end of the Island and right by the airport!! The plus side is you are right by the beach at pigeon point. Wonderful, but crap for snorkelling

| Thanks for the info. The holiday is primarily a family holiday but I am hoping to sneak away for a couple of dives. I appreciate that Speyside is really the place to dive, but anything will be a bonus. Main concern was to find somewhere safe-ish weather wise for my family where I could also get some diving in. Again, many thanks for the replies to my post. |

Well, if you have any space in your suitcase - a trip to Tobago would be nice, I might take you over your weight allowance though
