| Onurair - Turkish airline, any experiences? A club trip (organisation nothing to do with me) has booked flights with Onurair, a Turkish airline. We are trying to find out how much baggage we are allowed each and to see if we can negotiate/buy more for our diving kit (50 people going). We cannot find anyone who can speak English at the airline though and emails have gone unanswered. Has anyone flown with the airline before? Any expeirences? Any ideas on baggage allowance/how much extra divers are allowed/how much they charge for excess. Paul

| Hi Paul I flew with Onur Air in 2004. I contacted them by email in advance of my trip and was allowed 5 kilo extra on top of the usual 20k allowance (plus hand luggage). I got this in writing from them in both English and Turkish via email, which I printed out and took with me. This proved useful on the way back when I had to argue a bit with an over-officious bloke at Dalaman Airport who wanted to include my hand luggage in the 25k allowance as well. I won. I have the weblink at work and may still have the old email as well. I'll send whatever I can find to you soon as I am not in the office at the moment. The aircraft on the way out was very basic and very hot but you got free bottles of water. It was comfortable enough - I' booked a cheap holiday and you gets what you pay for so no complaints. I seem to recaall the aircraft on the way back was a bit more modern. HTH Helen

| Helen, Many thanks, any links would be much appreciated. It is good to hear from someone who has actually been on this airline and survived - I am not entirely convinced by the whole thing I have to say! 3D, I wondered about that too - unfortunately we need to get some confirmation of the allowance before we get to the airport! Paul

| You just beat me to posting a thread about this topic Paul Just to add that at the moment they are sticking to their guns of 20kg. and £5/kg for extra (whether prebooked or not). The price is 'nonnegotiable'. I've never understood how airlines seem to change their policy so often. A chap at work was just told that he won't be able to take his bike on a plane because it has suspension, despite being told several times that it would be fine. Thanks very much for your help, I especially like the idea of pretending to be a potential customer to see if their attitude is different. Sam http://www.luusac.org.uk/ |
