Cuba in December

Just booked a couple of weeks diving in Cuba at Maria La Gorda (south west tip of the island) in December. Anybody been or know much about the diving? Many thanks

Yeah I was there in November a couple of years ago. Stunning place - *really* beautiful. The nearest building is about 14Km away - it has the most amazing sunsets. I fell in love with it.

The diving... Take your own kit - esp. regs and suits - *everything* was falling apart. The night dives are $40USD but well worth it. Loads of fish life as they haven't kicked the ass out of their waters the way we (and most of the world) have.

The profiles are truly awful as they take you up and down the ledges so you are constantly going from 20ish to 40ish and back again throughout nearly every dive.

Take plenty of toiletries and snacky food as Cuba is subject to a US embargo and quite literally starving in places. The food is drab but be grateful for what there is.

Enjoy.

Echo the sentiment. And take a bath plug if you want a bath as none of their baths have one. But the US sanctions are only half the story. The other problem is the 12 months of paperwork it takes to import anything into Cuba. So I'd recommend always taking your own kit. If you're lucky, they've just got new kit. If you're not, it could be 5 years old.
