Talking Info about Zanzibar

Hello divers,

I am looking for past experience from divers that have been to Zanzibar over the last year or so. My girlfriend and I are planning to go in August for two weeks but could do with some feedback about reliable diveshops and recomended sites and budget accommodation. We'd rather spend our money on good diving and not on luxury accommodation any suggestions are welcome.

We were in talks with a resort in Zanzibar about working with them on a project and they have an affiliate dive centre :-

Welcome to Rising Sun Online

As we have not been, we can not say if they are any good or not, but hope the info might be useful to you......

Although a bit more than a year ago - in fact probably nearer the time they opened 7 years ago - we dived with rising sun and had a great time. By the looks of it they have updated their boats, as we were on motorised canoes The last dive we did was a drift over a coral garden and still remains the best dive of that sort I have done. I hope the East Coast of Zanzibar is still as unspoilt as years ago as this was the highlight of the area - along with a pob of dolphins that played with us for about 10 mins in shallow water. I also remember plenty of turtles and seeing a pair of squid either mating or fighting!?

However, the resort it is in is pretty expensive(Breezes Resort & Spa). The food was fantastic and even the evening buffets, which I normally despise were fantastic. It's a bit out of the way, so not sure about budget accommodation in the area.
