Sun tan lotion

Hi all,

Daft question, not even sure if this is in the correct place.

I'm off to Sharm-el-Sheik in Egypt in 5 weeks and want some good sun tan lotion, I do burn quite easily and my family has a history of skin cancer so I want some good stuff thats going to last and protect.

Any ideas?

A lot of people swear by Reimanns. You apply it first thing in the morning and that's it for the whole day, even if you go in the water. Downside is you have to wait 90min before going in the sun. SPF50 or something like that. ASDA was flogging it the other day I was in, first time I'd ever seen it.

Avoid Soltan at all costs. If you have it on your face, and it runs into your eyes it stings like ****! Not good when your trying to see the little fishes.

If you wear that P20 stuff (good for all day) only wear black clothes - it leeches a horrible yellow colour otherwise!

I just use whatever's going cheap - anything over factor 30 is a sun-block, don't be fooled by the hype and spend mega-dosh.

The highest SPF that can be prescribed on the NHS is factor 30.

You'll need some good stuff for Sharm in July...wow it will be scorching!!!

We use Malibu sun tan lotion which we have always found to be excellent and for trips like yours use factor 25. I haven't seen it in Boots but it can be found in Superdrug, some Tesco's and some of the discount toiletry shops such as 'Savers'. I think we usually pay around a fiver or less for a 400ml bottle.

Your face will need a good wash before you dive though otherwise you'll be clearing it for the whole dive...been there, done that

Hope this helps

Kathy

I was given a gem of advice by a DM in cyprus and he swears by high spf factor moisturisers. It is absorbed into the skin unlike most lotions which cover and can wash off, and last for hours even after going diving.

What ever brand you decide to buy, make sure that you get a factor 20 or higher but most important don't forget to apply often

Don't wait till you're in the sun to put your lotion on.

Like Oil of Ugly. I use that on my face, then the Nivea elsewhere. They also do one which has a green tinge which goes down great with a 9 year old... he can see where he has put it on.
