| Eco diving Hi Folks!! I have just been away on a looky see trip to l'escala, Spain as a guest of Ray and Gaynor Kenna participating in their project on the Costa coast. Never done this area before, often wanted to,so gave it a try! Their setup is very good, accomodation comfortable and area knowledge excellent! Non divers can enjoy the area as there are Roman /Greek ruins and it has good clean beaches. Rays boat was out of action, so the week consisted of a trip to the Medas and shore diving. I arrived to find that I was the only guy diving this week as the students who were also booked were victims of a tutor strike and had to cancel because of delayed exams! Hey Ho! It was maybe a good job as I was well out of my depth with the scientific stuff! Being the Biological numpty that I am, my fish ID skills were poor to say the least! maybe 3 right out of 20 in the initial test, not good scientific data !! although I did learn the difference between a triplefin and a variagated goby by the end of the week! so i spent most of the dives clearing up old fishing lines and bimbleing about!! I managed to recover about a Kilo of fishing leads over the week! The only worrying bit was all the Meddy's in the shallows mooching about with spikes and toasting forks stabbing at anything that moved!! Anythings fair game for a paella!! The diving was done in two bays, both good sites, with caves and a wreck to explore. It was a great place to practise Macro photography, with loads of Nudibranches and small gobies Great fun! most relaxing, and of course educational!! Only groan was the lack of Guinness, but I got over it!! So if you fancy a holiday with a purpose, give them a try! Flights to Gerona were available from Doncaster airport. Thanks again to them both for an enjoyable week It was a pleasure to spend my birthday with them and sample my first Tapas Bar!! Divers Info Travel Dive - Image Gallery - Dive site By the way, Gaynor has just acquired a new pup, a rare Portugese Water Dog called Scuba, that has webbed toes and the breed is famous amongst fishing communities for rescuing sea type people and retrieving fishing equipment! Sounds like the perfect beastie for Mark W's home made rebreather support team!!
