| Did two dives with Calipso (out of Costa Teguise)... The Rabat: Tuna Fishing Boat lying on its port side just off a slope in approx 32m, sandy featureless bottom RHIB dive, anchor acting as the shotline, no noticeable current. Swam around the boat to the shot - looked down could see the bottom, correction could see the bottom and the wreck (from the surface) Down the shotline with my son (buddy). Stopped at 1m off the bottom, immediately signalled by Pete to "go do our own thing". Swam around the wreck noting entry points, round the stern, under the prop & rudder, lots of goatfish (was someone winding me up?), round the starboard side, fish ball with shoal of barracuda watching plus 1 BMF of a barracuda that was hunting by itself... Back around to the port side through hatchway, looked at entrance to bridge but lots of wire etc in the gap (boat had been stripped of all electronics), through narrow swim through towards the stern, back out. Reentered and into the hold - mind the nets and ropes, turn right, round a pillar and forwards... Not much to see, don't touch anything ferrous... Another pair of divers entered behind us, bang went the viz as they seemed to touch/kick everything in sight, at this point could just see my son's torch, he could barely see mine. Backed out minding the nets. Helped the exiting pair as they got caught up - trailing octos not a good idea when ropes and nets are about! Found another tight entry point but nothing to see. Back out - rest of the divers are making their way up - we've still got 100B+ left so left thye wreck to see if we could find any Angel Sharks or Wrays (nope). All we found was a very pretty thingy with a tiny colourful body and long spiny legs (some sort of crab?) ((come on, wasn't made of non-ferrous ))A bit more looking about and then check out the shot/anchor - moved it clear of some rocks and then up the shotline, stopping at 18m and 16m on the way up before a bit of deco - we were diving on 32% but using air computers Nice relaxing dive - 45mins, 32m Old Harbour Wrecks: Number of wrecks just off the Old Harbour Hard Boat (why?) dive, anchor acting as the shotline, no noticeable current. Down the shot to uppermost wreck - pretty much intact, but we'll do that one on the way back up Over the drop off and down to the other wrecks - dived these 4/5 years ago - looking at them, were they the same ones? Unfortunately - yes, but they were virtually destroyed - allegedly by a storm earlier in the year(?!?) Tootled about them but not a lot to see, so... Lets look for the "cave" - couldn't find it so up the wall to the uppermost wreck Enough here to have a good pootle round - a number of entry points (and for the fish lovers a fair sized pipe fish under the stern) Struggled through a tight entry point - again minding the ropes, through another door and intro the main "room", looked left and b****r me, theres a much larger door way Out the far side and look for more entry points Eventually found another one and a tight crawl through into the stern and can see down into another area but gap far too tight for OC gear, crawl back out and another swim round before its time to reyurn to the shotline Another nice relaxing dive - 46mins, 35m Calipso: Nice bunch of guys and girls Peter Monk still as mad as a hatter Prices reasonable Ring them direct and book direct with them - had problems with the Pro-Dive website and Calipso never recd the booking! Fortunately we went into Costa Teguise the day before we were due to dive and said "hello", the guys at Calipso said "err, who are you - no booking recd!" Lanzarote diving: OK for what it is - holiday diving Oh - picked up from the hotel at 8.45, did the dive and back at the hotel for 12.45 As we'd been away for so little time, SWMBO wanted to know what had gone wrong and why we hadn't dived - brownie points all round ![]() Last edited by Nick Kay : 16-08-06 at 11:09 PM. |

Calypso is a great organisation - couldn't fault any of the staff. As for the dives. Well in my opinion the 'Rabat' takes some beating and the Cathedral is a great cavern type dive. Pretty much what everyone else has said on here! Chris
