Recommend a location to me...

I'm looking to get away with the family in the October half term but I'm not sure where to go.

Red Sea is probably top of the list and the kids are 5 and 2.

Is there anywhere that offers reasonable diving without having to resort to the boats?

What's the best location for the family (should we just go for something like the Movenpick in Naama bay).

Gavin

Well, it is cheap stuff and it comes almost from the local gardening store, but it works fine and it's very solid. We tried to destroy one by hitting it with a hammer... we succeeded but we really had to hit it hard - http://www.stde.ch/en/faq.php

i must admit gavin i know before we booked i was tempted to go with oonas divers as they are top notch when it comes to diving !

although i suspect u will want to be in the middle of naama bay where theres plenty to do !

i finaly plumed for a liveaboard and then the last nite in the 5 star crown plaza about 3 miles from naama bay centre and it has a reef as part of the hotel which is called the far garden !!!

great with kids and the hotel is imaculate but a little hilly so no good if ya bad on ya feet !

best wishes leigh

Dahab?

All shore dives so you can choose to dive in the morning and spend the afternoon with the family. The more upmarket hotels are all located around the Lagoon and are pretty much self contained if that's what you want. There are very few other attractions though, especially for children that age.

Nuweiba or Taba

Look at the all inclusive Hilton Coral Dreams at Nuweiba - good pool, sea does not shelve too quickly as I remember, hammocks to lie on while kids play on sand. Kids can also watch lionfish cruise along the supports of the hotel pier. Emperor divers on site - well run outfit - and do all shore dives, some dives away from 9 am till 3pm some you come back to Hotel for lunch. The house reef is a good night dive. Not much else to Nuweiba that I saw.

Friend of mine was in Taba with her 6 year old daughter for a week last October - non diver just holidaying - she said it was brilliant and would definitely go back. both shore and boat dives from Taba.

The kids don't actually need much around. As long as there is a decent pool and good access to the beach/sea they'll be happy.

I like the idea of being able to shore dive to spend some time with the family. Anyway as MJH said - "you've seen one reef you've seen them all" .

Hi Gavin!
I can suggest Tenerife since you are going with your family. The diving here is very good. We have Paradise Divers in Callao Salvaje and are situated in Tropical Park Hotel, where we also can arrange acommodation for you.
We do 2 dives a.m with start 9,00 a.m and are back around 1.30 p.m, which gives you the time to spend with the family in the afternoon.
Send a mail to info@paradisedivers.co.uk for more information.
All the best
Carina
