How "quite new to diving" is he? The level of 50 dives to do a liveaboard is there for good reason really. If he has much less than this then perhaps dayboats would be a better bet for both your mate and for the sake of the others on theo boat - noone wants their £900 holiday diving curtailed to suit a new diver who shouldn't really be on board. If he has done that sort of number and is experienced in a variety of conditions then most itineraries would be fine, although you might be better to choose ones that don't go to the Brothers if currents aren't something he has dealt with particularily before.

Something doing Elphinstone and St Johns would be perfectly fine though, and has some great diving.

Grand Sea Serpent is a very nice boat - have fun!

Lou

Hi

Most of the routes in the Southern Red Sea require that people have buoyancy control compatible with diving on sheer walls with no visible bottom. There are a couple of areas e.g. Fury Shoals, Zabargad which are shallower but in the better sites e.g. Elphinstone, Daedalus, St John's you will need to be comfortable with negative entries and holding station in the blue.

The diving is awesome though!!

Have a great time
Mal

Hi
We've not long got off the Grand Sea Serpant...2 weeks ago...arse!
Boat and crew were fantastic!

The trip we did was: Simply the Best; The Brothers, Elphinstone, Daedalus.

The trip did require the diver to have 50 logged dives; this will be a factor to take into account.
Most of the dives were negative entry.

What did we see?....
Sharks.....
OWT's, Hammerheads, Silver Tips, Threshers, Silkie's....fantastic!

Hope info may be of interest
Kasha

I was on this Liveaboard a few weeks ago we went to Daedelus, Elphinstone and the Brothers (On the same trip as Kasha). The trip was fantastic. but not for beginners. The guides and the crew were brill they were always there to help you both in and out of the water.

As Kasha said alot of the dives are negative entry and the currents can be quite strong.

But it is worth it because the diving is fab, This trip is definatly worth going on.
