Nice idea, but it seems we are now looking at three nights in Marakesh instead, although I have sent her the link to the explorers website in the hope she will reconsider.

No worries - I wasn't intending to dive all the time as wife is of the non-diving variety so it would only be a couple of days diving for me. If we can find something for late Feb or March in the same price range, I may well still be going - we've decided to leave Jan (and early Feb - half term).

Do you have to restrict yourself to Sharm ?

yesterday I was offered, 7 nights in Mombassa, Kenya, for £340, now bear in mind that it's the Indian Ocean, and this is Whale Shark season, and it's very tempting

Not really, but we have a limited budget - most of Europe is too cold at the moment (and I don't get to go diving), so was looking at somewhere with a shortish (<5 hours) flight time and a warm climate.
Having done Kenya before (Malindi back in 1999) I couldn't do it justice in just a week! But worth remembering that it's doable for that amount.
Thanks Jim - will keep pushing to get to Egypt as have not been there before and I've heard it said the diving's not bad either
