Looking to do a combination - 1 week on an island and 1 week on a liveaboard in the maldives.
Anyone got any recommendations on operators to approach?

The only liveaboard I would recommend as it is the only one I have been on is Maldives Scuba Tours they could organise your island week as well.
I have been on Sea Spirit and have a fantastic 12 days. They do 7 and 12 day trips.

I've just come back and wasn't impressed with the diving TBH (will do a trip report at some point but I'm a few behind as it is).
If I was to go back I'd do a liveaboard and not bother with the island.
Have to agree with Rob I did a resort in 1999 and would rather have a liveaboard. The 12 day trip was excellent.

Was looking at an island to chill after the flight, then the liveaboard for some fun diving. Wanna see Mantas!!!!!
Chill out![]()
I think we arrived in the late morning, we were taken out to the boat, welcomed and sorted our kit out we were in the water later in the afternoon
Between dives are for chilling![]()

funnily enough i've spent my day getting quotes for this for our honeymoon.
I was told Monsoon is the boat to go for a luxury liveaboard option and - TonyB scuba, or have looked into the one Fiona has said and also explorers. For two weeks - one liveaboard then one week hotel - you are looking at about £5k for two end of Oct / beg Nov (TB inc 3day dive package). Explorers are much cheaper but then look at the boat and see if you like it really.

I saw about 30 mantas on a dive there a few weeks ago. We went on Savruga, which wasn't a luxury boat by any means but the air con worked, the food wasn't bad and 7 nights cost me 768 euros. I booked the flights myself with expedia. I booked it through tourmare: Tauchreisen und Tauchsafaris weltweit. They speak English even if half the documentation was in German.

See http://www.scuba-addict.co.uk/ for diving trip reports and the UK Underwater Visibility Database.
See http://www.scuba-addict.co.uk/trips2010.html for details about my 2010 dive trips to Plymouth, Weymouth and Eastbourne.
I spent a week in the Maldives on an Island, and dived off the day boat. Can't complain as it's the best of both worlds . . . .
And I got to swim with Mantas
And a black tip reef shark
I can't quite see how you could organize a 'Midnight Cockroach Safari' on a liveaboard(although I didn't get any takers
