sharm in July

Well I'm off to Sharm for the first time in 5 weeks, 22 July in fact, can't wait. Have booked my diving with Red Sea Waterworld part of red sea college, as we got a good deal on the Hyatt and the hotel should keep Mrs Endoman and the little endo's happy while I'm diving.

Any must do's? I plan on doing T Gorm .

Bill

I'm back out there on the 3rd, I personally think Dunraven is a piss poor dive for the extra money they charge. Thistlegorm is a must do, provided you can fit it in. The first time I went to Sharm there wasn't enough interest from other divers!!

Shark and Yolanda is a great dive and I imagine you'll do that a couple of times and still find new things to see. It is in the Ras Mohamed national park so there's usually an extra fee there as well. Another dive the guides rave about is Jackfish Alley, but to my mind once you've gone through the cave it's all downhill from there. It tends to be a dive on the way out, or back to Shark so if you're conserving your energy for a later dive I'd personally give it a miss

I personally like the reefs in the straits of Tiran, only downside is you tend to get a crap last dive in one of the garden sights.

Off topic, get Mrs Endoman and the kids to the Sinai Star right in the town centre market. The fish is cheap and excellent, and you get to see all life passing through the market in front of you.

That why steve its good to do the dives on a liveaboard and always say a dive is

what ya make it, and what floats ur boat !

for me its either wrecks or reefs ! but shallow reefs around 10 metres i love !!!

or wrecks in the 30-35 metre range !

which includes both the rear of the thistlegorm and the rosser lee muller !

the tiran straits are very good either jackson thomas or woodhouse all have

varied sites and differing currents to contend with ! there are so many dives u can do ! but u wont go far wrong with the big famous dives ! ie tiran, thistlegorm.dunraven, ras mohamed, amongst many others !!

go into it with an open mind bill u will love it !

Leigh, I agree liveaboards are the way to go but perhaps Mrs Endoman and the sprogs might get a bit bored

Thanks for the tips Steve, problem is Mrs Endoman is veggie, and won't eat fish. Any suggestions as to good veggie food where I might find some meat as well.

Anything in the Ras Mohammed national park is worth doing - just for the walls and wildlife. My personal favourite is Jackfish Alley (sorry steveharriss ), but only if the current is in the right direction. If it is, you do a long drift dive over a brilliant coral garden, only needing to fin when there's a pinnacle coming up. If the current's in the wrong direction, it's an average dive at best.

Everyone does the Straits of Tiran dives, and for good reason - they're excellent.

I agree that the Dunraven is overrated. I've just got back from the Red Sea, and did 4 wreck dives (Chrisoulis K, Kimon M, Carnatic & Giannis D) which are all loads better than the Dunraven. Those wrecks are all in one place: Abu Nahas which is reachable from Sharm.

I'd definitely do the Thistlegorm. But assuming you're dayboating prepare for diver soup (and a really early wake-up call). I also did the Rosalie Moller for the first time - top dive, but you don't get long as it's a minimum of 30-35 metres.

good advice ian ! very good and i agree with you also steve that the family would get very bored ! i was just pointing out the logistical side of liveaboards which makes the furthest away quite easy! last year i did a dive on the thistlegorm !when ther was only 2 of us on the whole wreck and it was teaming with life just as the sun warmed the sky !likewise the nite dive before it although stirred up a little it was still very nice as about 8 of us did a dive ! ras mohamed fantastic anytime of the day ! thats what put me off the day boat thing hearing the diver soup after about 8 am!!!

I will try and see if the guides can be influenced as to where the boat goes. I guess they have a standard set of the sites for a week, but may be open to suggestions? As the hotel is right on middle garden I presume that's where I will doing my checkout dives. Got to be better than a muddy puddle though!
