Fantastic girlfriend, but doesn't do liveaboards - Dahab?

Looking for a little trip around Christmas time. If it was up to me, no question, I'd be on a liveaboard, but my girlfriend has different ideas. It's the possibility of sea sickness which is putting her off. I've even offered to pay for her trip if she doesn't enjoy it, but I'm not going to win this one!

Anyway, looking for somewhere warm and cheap that's not Sharm or Hurghada. I'm assuming Dahab would be a good choice. Was looking at Tony Backhurst (Bedouin Moon + Reef 2000). Any comments or recent experiences?

Or why not try Marsa Shagra near marsa Alam? I'm off there in a few weeks as a change from liveaboards. Unlimited diving, stay in a tent or a chalet, communal nosh in a big tent and a day trip to Elphinstone (30 minutes away.)
And it is reasonably cheap.

I'll second Marsa, I went in July, was mega hot (50 degrees), hence it was cheap, the snorkelling's brilliant, the diving's even better!

And if you want cool at night, go for a tent!

Over the years i have dived from most places in the red sea, Dahab is far and away the best for wives/GF's who dont dive or if they do the odd dip in a week is enough.

I say this purely as Marsa, Sharm, Hurghada etc etc are all mostly day boat diving. So you get up at say 8am go out all day on the boat and get back 5pm ish.

Dahab is purley shore based, so you can go out at 8am and be back by 10-11am, so it still gives you time to spend with the boss. Then if you want go back for a dive later afternoon.

Where ever you go enjoy

Marsa had more trips that only took you out for one dive than day trips when I was there? So the diving partner would only be away for a couple of hours. But only really suited if the non-diving partner enjoys sun, sea and sand, and a head in a good book!
