Cuba Diving

Heading out with 3 others for a trip to Cuba in November. Going for 10 days in total and we want to spend about 5 days of that diving.

Plan is to get to Havana and then sort out the rest of the trip.

Does anyone have any suggestions where in the country we should head? Are there any major differences in the North and South coasts?

Any recommendations for dive centres?

Greg

Just make sure your credit/debit cards arent part of an American bank etc as they wont be of any use to you. My mate went (not diving) ther last year and only had American based cards (MBN) and they were not accepted, he didnt even know they were issued via MBN.

Jardines de La Reina is probably the best diving in Cuba. There's an Italian run floating hotel there and plenty of big pelagic sharks etc.

Good wreck diving of the north coast around Varadero - although its quite touristy.

4 days in Havana is about right - stay in the Parque Central Hotel - it's ideally situated and really the only decent modern hotel in Havana. Great rooftop bar as well!

You can dive in Santa Lucia with bull sharks. It was the most "interesting" shark feed I've been to. Apart from that there's not an awful lot else there though.

Other choices include Maria La Gorda, Isla De Juventad, Jardines de Reina and Ancon. The latter has whale sharks, but I'm not sure it's the season.

Diving Cuba

I dived with Barrakuda diving at Varadero only did 4 dives Russion Patrol boat was ok and across to the Bay of Pigs not too bad apart from that the rest didn`t appeal the wreck at the bay of pigs was worse than a bath tub.
And the equipment wasn`t much better.
Hope this isn`t a Negative its just that I like metal lol.
