Pawara & Mermaid II are the more luxurious end. Pawara looks good, I haven't seen it, it's quite new.

The Junk is unique, Keith is the tour guide, I've known him for years, he's really nice guy. It was funny seeing him at the NEC.

Dayboats, I would recommend Calypso, just for the pancakes. South Siam weren't bad. To be honest, they're all pretty similar.

Hi Steven, once again thank you for the good info, JC sounds good for a liveaboard? Cant wait to get back in the water did a night dive at Capenwray quarry UK last week not quite the same. Did a great liveaboard two weeks ago Red Sea Snapdragon diving was excellent. The Thistlegorm was an excellent night dive.

Give Mama Lek a kiss from me Breakfast is always similar, but the rest of teh meals vary from Thai curry to fish & chips. If they catch a decent fish they'll serve it as sushi with wasabi. Warning: She cooks to much and likes you to eat it all!!

If you get a choice of dive guide, go with Yai the Thai guide, he knows where the small things of interest are.

The Junk I would recommend, simply a unique experience. Pawara: was good value last year, but they are having engine problems already on 2 trips this year, plus they are at the moment IMO overpriced. Same goes for Mermaid II: good boat, but there are IMO better value for money boats.

Hi okeanos, Just got back from Phuket JC was excellent thank you for the advise Yai was agreat guide. And the food was as you said excellent as well. I also gat another 8 dives in with SeaFun Dives who were excellent as well.Didnt spot anything big but all the dives were great KingCruiser and the caves on Koh Dok Mai were quite good the smaller one was more interesting.
Hope you have a good time when you get out there next. Once again thanks for the help. Best regards Paul

Glad you enjoyed it, I can only recommend from experience, and experience tells us not everyone thinks the same about things and things change. Glad it's still the same.

Hi - I'm flying out to Phuket on new year's eve (arrive Jan 1st). I'm told that I'll have no problem finding a dive center for day trips/overnight trips, but what is the accomodation situation at this time of year.
any recommendations?
I'm having problems trying to book over the net.

thanks
topshell

Just ask Chantal at Phuket Scuba Club, she'll ask around for you. That reminds me I must call Chantal too!
