I have never dived from there but have been told that the diving is pretty ltd, but from what i saw in my breif 24hr visit was that it would make a lovely holiday (non diving)

Petra is great, would like to go back. Just not on a coach tour from Sharm next time. As i said 24hrs....not fun

No worries,

Have you considered Taba?

I believe there is horse riding available from the sas Radisson, there is some limited diving in the area (better than Jordan IMHO) and better coral, and you can still see Petra and Wadi rum and the dead sea as day trips.

Of course this means travelling through the Taba border into Israel then a very short trip to the Jordanian border but it's not too bad.

Might tick all the right boxes....

excited saw the sea in a book once
You can take the ferry from TABA port, to Jordan. I think there are two ferries a day. We have just come back from TABA Heights, that way you can avoid the israeli border.

Hope that hekps..
