| Could someine elaborate on the ferry sailings please? We went with the Jane R in 2004 and sailed over night (23hours sailing) arriving in Bergen to meet the dive boat, then returning the same day a week later to Bergen to catch the sailing that afternoon. Has the number of sailing/dates changed to become more complex for us divers diving Sunday to Sunday? Thanks, Dave C

| I was a bit confused with the ferries but it looks like they only sale every Thursday from Newcastle to Bergen at 1500hrs returning Sundays 0900hrs to arrive Newcastle Monday afternoon ? Bit of a cruise ! The pricing for the crossing is £156 return for a vehicle (extra £70 odd for a roofbox and nearly £400 extra to add a small trailer on????) Then its about £200 for a cabin each way which it appears you have to book but since some take 4 is not bad 4 adults / people carrier 4 person cabin £158 a person or thereabouts with DFDS ......... meals extra (take sandwiches) or the all you can eat buffet on board for £20 db |

I did it years ago (25yrs +) and it was good but didn't know whether to preorder We have 12 divers going so the kit is getting spread out amongst us to cut costs........its still going to hit the old bank account hard db |

| Comiserations on the change of ferry sailing days. For what its worth, When we went the organiser took one transit van and we piled all our gear in there. Me and my buddy peronally booked twin cabin, which I recal being ~£200 each. I think we all paid ~£30 quid each (we booked the whole dive boat) to the organiser for our share of the extra ferry costs for the van and car parking charges in Bergen. Most booked their cars into the secure parking in Newcastle. Its a bit of a hike in Bergen from the ferry terminal to the boat mooring so I'm glad we had the the van to move the bulk of the kit, Just hand luggage to shift on foot. We were lucky that at the time their were sailings which dropped us off and picked us up the same day of the week in Bergen. If you have only booked places on the boat the skipper might be able to put you in touch with others who are sailing on the same days, and you may be able to arrange to share car/van space on taking the kit over the sailing? Good luck. Bergen is a lovely place and the diving is really nice. I don't think I'll be able to afford to go to Norway for a few years, now my family has expanded. Dave C

| Yep the ferries are a bit of a pain as it means more annual leave as well .........travelling and the trip is nearly two weeks duration rather than the one ! Still will treat it like a cruise and chill ! (Must be the lack of kids !!) The majority are flying and we have a one car and the other two are in a transit full of kit which should spread costs a bit Checked out dive videos on YOUTUBE and the diving looks good ....... db |
