Perth Australia

I am going to be in Perth for 3 weeks from about 11th April and will be looking to do some diving at least one of the weeks, could even be up for liveaboard if its available. I would need to hire the gear as its part of a 2 month holiday and I won't be dragging my gear around for the other 7 weeks.
I would be grateful for any help/advise

Go down the Dunsborough and dive the HMAS Swan. Should be covered in life by now. The Busselton jetty is a great dive in 9m of water. There's loads of fish life. You can either get the train to the end or be lazy and get a boat like I did.

Or there's Rottnest, which I didn't think was as good, but the weather was rubbish and the boat was full of novices who'd forgotten half of what little they'd ever learnt, so we probably didn't do the best sites.

I did my Adv. Open Water with Dolphin Scuba Diving in Dec 05. Found out when I got there that it's owned by a couple of Brits. Everyone I met there were pretty nice. They can hire you all the gear too.

We dived Brussleton Jetty with them (as Jason says, a great dive! Lots of gish life, even saw a prawn and a little occie! )

Sounds like they organise regular trips. Might be worth contacting them to find out more.

Hope that helps,

Si

I went to Rottnest years ago before I was diving. Did a lot of snorkelling though.

Near the harbour there wasn't a great deal to see but a bit further out (not too far) there was a plethora of wildlife including a ray of some sort (sorry not the best description but I didn't have the same interest back then as I do now nor did I have a camera )

I recal an advert in the back of one of the mags (bsac or dive) that went out and found big stuff a little south of Perth, sorry its vague but it was a while ago. Might be worth a dig around Smiths.

Have a good time, I loved Perth, do go to Kings Park its amazing.

Matt

Agree with Matt about Kings Park! Lovely!

Also a vineyard cruise up the river can be pretty fun. Good feed and some booze

This place is also worthwhile if you've got transport...
Outdoor Cinema out in the bush! Nice atmosphere!

Yep, the Swan is a nice dive, and Dunsborough/Bussleton is pleasantly close to the Margaret River wine region too.

The water looked like the Mersey when I looked down from the jetty at Bussleton---as did Swanage pier come to that the one time I've been there!

They do tours from these places, mini bus and down the vino as much as you like. There is also the only source of tasty beer I found in the whole country :-) brewed slap bang in the middle of the wine area. Can't remember its name, but it's often included in the tours :-)
