That isn't fair

BUT I wish more airlines would just offer a flat rate for excess baggage, rather than ripping you off with extortionate per kilo charges. Flying with sposts gear is becoming a PITA and if it is a set excess you can budget it into the cost of the flight, which is far less hasstle than having to worry about every kilo.

Beware what Thompsonfly say and what happens at the airport. My wife and I flew out to Sharm last october and after several phone calls and emails we were told that our total baggage allowance including hand luggage and divers allowance was 30kg. We weighed and re weighed luggage and were dead on our limit. On arrival at Gatwick our bags were weighed and there scales made us 5kg over our limit.

We tried to add some of this extra weight onto our friends unused allowance but were not allowed so off goes wife to pay excess luggage and £65 later she returns.

After a great 11 days away and a few gifts we return and on the scales at Sharm's airport amazingly our luggage was now under our 30kg weight limit by about 5kg each yet nothing had changed except extra weight from those must have gifts for family back home.

I`m in Sharm at the moment. Got thru` the baggage check without any problems. The clerk on the check-in did`nt want to see any documentation at all, and just took our word for it. I still think it`s best to get some form of confirmation though .

Very efficient at the airport. From landing to going thru` passport control was less that 5 mins. By the time we got to the baggage reclaim, there were already bags on the carousel. Can`t see that happening on our return to Bristol though !

By the way, it`s sunny here, but blowing a gale. Not the weather for sunbathing out of shelter, or getting back on the boat in a wetsuit.

Cheers Steve - have a great time. Only 2 weeks to go for me

I spoke again to Thomson recently and the 5kg extra is provided automatically on showing cert card. You only need to prebook if you do not have a cert card or if you want to have your kit in separate bag ( you have to pay for this )

And it did`nt. We were the only plane on the ground and it still took them half an hour for the baggage to come thru`

Just thought i'd point out that there is a different rule and charging policy
for the same plane with Thomsom, depending if you are Charter or flight
only. This can lead to a bit of confusion.

If you are flying as part of a holiday package (Thomsom, Portland, Skytours
etc), then it's whatever is on the ticket, boosted by 5kgs with a C-Card.

So if it says 20kgs main + 5kg hand, you can put an extra 5kg on one or
the other, but not both. So total allowance goes from 25kg to 30kg.

If you are on flight only then they allow a much lower basic and then you
buy more in 10kg lumps. Again you can boost this with a c-card, but the
basic can be as low as 15kg. Even with a c-card you'd only be the same
20kg as the Charter.

Bottom line is that with Charter you'd have enough in that 30kg to not pay
any extra, but if flight only you will have to pay a supplement to get
anywhere near that, even with an extra 5kg.

Oh and BTW, just done a group trip with a mix of the above, so yes it's
accurate.
