Grenada Dive Centers

I am going to Grenada 1st May 2008 staying at the Coyaba Beach Resort which is located on the Grand Anse Beach. Looking around I have found 4 dive centres which have some sort of recommendation from UK divers. Can anybody comment on them good/bad thanks?

I think their membrane system nitrox is included in the price and they're nice people.

D2O gets my vote for being a top 'can do' dive centre.

A group of us dived with them Xmas 2006 and they realy went out of there way to accomodate our needs. Prices were good, they were happy to rig up side slings, and do the sites other dive centres dont like doing etc..

We did 11 dives with them, 4 of which were on the Bianca C. Some great diving to be had, wish I was gong back this year...

Scuba Tech

I've never dived there but Scuba Tech is owned by three of my mates.

I know them from Egypt and they're very professional as well as being bloody good fun.

You can mention my name but don't expect a discount

We have visited Grenada 5 times and dived with Ecodive (based at the Coyaba), Dive Grenada (just down Grand Anse Beach) and Aquanauts (a centre on Grand Anse, but their big facility is across the island)... all were good in there own way, but it depends what diving you want.

Ecodive....
I did my PADI open water course with them 5 years ago (I am an AI now), Marv is a nice mellow knowledgable guy from the US, they have one dive boat, at as of last year no nitrox

Dive Grenada
Mick and Phil (both from UK, Phil used to work for Ecodive) are a good team, again laid back and knowledgeable, one dive boat again, and I think no nitrox.

Both of these tend to do the easier "cruise ship" type dives on the caribbean side of the island (including Shakem approx 32 M, plenty of good reefs), and the Bianca C (40 M, titanic of the caribbean etc). We were very satisfied with diving with both of these dive centres, however.......

Aquanauts
We were a bit nervous about switching to them. They have Nitrox, but we had heard they suffered from german efficiency and crowded boats. Actually they were the most professional dive centre we found (in this case german efficiency a great plus), excellent at all levels, covering both the dive sites Ecodive and Dive Grenada covered with multiple boats, BUT also including the atlantic side (more challenging, excellent diving, King Mitch, Hema I etc). They used a smaller boat for the more experienced divers and ensured dives were at appropriate level for the divers. On the atlantic side there were plenty of nurse sharks, eagle rays etc. Aquanauts also were a bit more european/UK in mindset (eg pony bottle availability for deep dives, rather than the "it's the warm caribbean with clear water so it will be OK" approach).

Overall it depends what sort of diving you're after, but we would always go back to Aquanauts.

PM me if you want more info / pictures /dive site info.

Adrian

I went with Dive Grenada in May 06. Very relaxed bunch the diving was appropriate to my level at the time so i cant talk about anything else. Also dived with another outfit based in the a hotel in Prickly Bay (nice bloke used to be a copper in essex).

As said all the diving was appriopriate to my level as Open Water Diver at the time. In most cases it was me on my own or with one other person/couple. Didnt have to book just walked up and asked, and as said that was in May.

If you get the chance head over to Carriacou and dive there as well. Dived with Silver diving. It was nice relaxed and pleasent diving, but be warned they do have a germanic efficency approach to diving but i enjoyed it and felt i was in good hands. Max the owner is the only man i have ever meet who looks pissed off at living in paradise.

Damn, wish i was back there now Mother in law is off there this monday infact, and i get to go to Capernwray instead.

Hi

We went in december 07, stayed at the grenada grand beach resort on grand anse beach. Their in resort dive centre was called Native Spirit and they were fab. Adrian is the owner and Instructor, he is the most qualified diver on the island. He had numerous qualifications under his belt and most of all he was a fantastic bloke (he looks and acts like eddie murphy). Very good prices and alot of the other hotels in resort dive teams came to dive with Adrian (rex resort being one).

Great team working with him. Really good time had by all.

although we dont rate Grenada for the diving the viz wasnt good but they had, had a 6.7 earthquake whilst we were there.

Hope you have a good time.

James

Thanks for all the replies (I have greened you all) Looks like its almost any of them to some degree, I do however want to keep away from the cruse type diving as I have over 300 dives in and have done the Brothers in raging current and channel diving in the Maldives so I feel I can cope with some of the more advertures stuff. I am leaning towards Scuba Tech from the replies so far.

what he said.

We stayed at True Blue Bay resort, and Aquanauts are on the walkway between the room and breakfast, so it was a very relaxed start to the day.

happy to recommend these guys and they're prepared to do the Atlantic stuff for the bigger pelagics.

guides and boat crew were good and we did a nice range of dives to suit all the members of our party.

pics from our trip in Dec-06 here

Well D20 were happy to take us out in 2m+ swells on the Atlanitic side of the point to do the wrecks of the Hema 1 and King Mitch. Both fantastic 30+m dives with pleant of Sharks, Rays and Barracuda.
