Anyone know anything about diving in Canada??

Hello all

I have accepted a sort term (4 months) secondment position from company, starting in the middle February and will be moving to Whitby, which is a suburb of Toronto in Canada.

Obviously whilst there I would like to get a bit of diving in - the main areas around there that have come up from a google are Tobermory and Kingston, but does anyone out there have anymore information how you go about getting diving organised in that area? Any centre recommendations or knowledge of club style environments over there???

I know the Americans have burst disks in tanks, anyone aware of any other kit variations at all.

Experianced BSAC dive leader with TDI ADV NI & Deco procedures and an interest in wreck diving if that helps at all.

Thanks in advance!

Andy

Hi,
I dived there a few years ago, I was based in Tobermory. The diving is excellent, plenty of wrecks in very clear waters. It is cold though, I was there in July, air temp 30c the water was 10c.

these are the folks we used, there are also a few links from their site.

St Lawrence River / Thousand Islands has some fanatastic wreck diving. And the water's actually quite warm in the summer.

I highly recommend getting in touch with these people: Dive Tech Training Centre - Home Page for fill, kit, rentals, etc.

In Brockville, Ontario there's a number of charter boats who cater to most types of diving. A lot of "locals trips" run after people get off work or early in the morning. Can't remember the skippers' names, but if you get in touch with Dive Tech, they'll sort you out.
