BALI - Diving & KL or HK stopovers?

Ok need some help.

I've a wedding to go to in Bali 1-7th August.
I Finish work on 18th July.

As far as I can tell I've a couple of route options
  • London- Hong Kong - Bali
  • London - Kuala Lumpur- Bali

For two days after the wedding there are plans for lots of us to do a few days day boat diving around Bali.

I am pretty much free to have a month off at this point and I fancy doing a week on a liveaboard.

So Far have found an option on these boats:
Liveaboard Diving Komodo | Bali | Indonesia | Mermaid Liveaboards
MV Mermaid I or Mermaid II

Ive been thinking that I can pretty much get a week or more stopover at KL or HK as part fo my flight price and that If I am dayboat diving around Bali is it worth doing a Liveaboard around that area or should I plan some day diving around Hong Kong or even day diving out of KL.

Has anybody dived these areas? recommendations? boats?
Other stop off ppoints.

As I say I have a month to play with, is it worth getting a flight out of Bali and going elsewehere then coming back to Balie to head home?

Suggestions, Ideas and recommendations most welcome?

Davie

I would recommend Tioman island on the other coast but i think its closed until MarcH.
Try this lot www.sunnycove.com.sg, i have dived with them and they are running trips all the time to various spots. Cheap tickets can be has with air asia or tiger air and i think jet star.
Hope this helps

Wouldn't bother with KL. I stayed there for a week. Not that impressive. Quite dirty. Traffic horrendous and airport miles from the centre (2 hours when I did it in one direction but only an hour and 15 the other direction).

Not been to HK so can't advise on that.

I went out on the Komodo Dancer in October and I loved it. The boat is really nice and the level of service outstanding. Komodo, Indonesia if that helps. They are also launching a new boat (I think in May) going to Sipadan.

In terms of diving in Bali, a friend of mine runs Crystal Divers Crystal Divers - Bali and they have a hotel attached to the dive centre and am sure that they would be happy to help. Unfortunately I didn't get to dive from Bali when I was out there but apparently Nusa Penida is well worth a few dives on it.

When I went out there I went with Cathay via Hong Kong. It seemed that it was either that way or through Singapore with Singapore Airlines or KL with Malaysian

HTH

You shud have taken the KL CAT train. Takes only half an hour and runs every 15 minutes. It goes from the airport straight into the heart of the ciy. Cheaper too.

I dived with Aquamarine in Bali. Excellent service and very good dive guides. In Malaysia, Pulau Redang is quite good. But its on the east coast. Easier to fly from KL to Terengganu, flight not too expensive.
All the best.
