Taking a pony to Sharm

Hello all,
I'm off to Sharm at the weekend for a week with my buddy from down south. His first Egyptian foray and my 5th. We are planning to dive the Thistlegorm during the week and after the last couple of times i'd feel a little better if i had a pony - his Mrs would kill me if something went wrong!! My question is has anyone taken their pony to Sharm, and if so were you allowed it in your hand luggage? Or can they be hired out there?

Thanks in advance,
Chucky

What about hiring a 15l tank or twinset once you're out there?

Cheers dive buddha, i'll do that.
Andrew, will be getting 15 Ls but want the pony for redundancy. As i said, can't afford to incur the wrath of his Mrs - and as i was his best man there'd be the chivalrous matter of having to marry her - she's Irish!! (Why are there no bunny boiling icons on the smilies board?)

Hope she doesn't read this!

Hire One?

Why not drop your Egyptian dive centre an email - quite a few will hire out pony cylinders.

We have taken a pony out in our hold baggage before, make sure you empty it and declare (prove) the valve is open at check-in.

Depending on your weight allowance it may actually be cheaper to hire one out there than to pay excess baggage charges.

I brought my pony cylinder with me to Egypt. I locked it in my hold luggage and the padlocks had disappeared when I saw the bag again but nothing was missing. I use it all the time.

Why not take a simple twinning kit (Buddy)? It's lightweight and allows you to use two cylinders. They have plenty of cylinders in Sharm!

I took 2 inspo cylinders last year, just make sure they are empty. You can always blow air in close the valve and open it again to prove that. You will need to get them xray'ed tho. Other than that no problems, easy peasy I would allow some extra time at the airport unless the bag xray q is large.
