Which Red Sea Liveaboard?

I'm looking at a booking a club trip in October/November for a Northern Wrecks and Reefs tour and was wondering whether anyone could offer any advice on boats? I like the look of the TB boats Whirlwind, Cylone and Typhoon - I know Whirlwind seems to get some good reviews recently from YD members but what about the Typhoon and Cyclone? They're all about the same price so is there anything to choose between them?

This is only my second trip to the Red Sea, and although I enjoyed my time on the Orchid last year, I'm hoping for something a bit more luxurious

Thanks
Mike.

Funny you should say that

Please recommend me a Red Sea Liveaboard

I asked the same question yesterday!

Hi mate, spotted your post - must be holiday planning time .

What I really want to find out is what the Typhoon and Cylcone are like - these are the two we currently have the choice of for the preferred dates - anyone got any experience of either boat?

Thanks,
Mike.

Whale Shark is (still I think) organising a trip for the period you are after...

Red Sea Liveaboard: November 1 - 8, 2008

If nothing else, I'm sure there will be some information available about the boat.

I went on Cyclone this time last year and was really impressed, nice boat, food was good and the guides were excellent. We did the Wrecks and Reefs itinerary too

Done Whirlwind a couple of weeks ago and it was fantastic.

Briefly did the Cyclone during the same trip but that was due to the zodiac driver and the rest of divers on it not believing John and I were on the Whirlwind because we had hoods on and being picked up by the Cyclone!!

Some of the guys on WHirlwind with me last weeke were on Cyclone a couple of years ago and declared Whirlwind the better boat.

AFAIUI, Typhoon and Whirlwind are practically the same.

The only complaint I could muster about Whirlwind was the horrid door handles in the lowere deck companionway. My arm is still covered in scratches and bruises from walking into the pointy bits.

Cheers for the replies everyone. It looks like any one of those three should be fine as the Cyclone has just been refitted.

Mark, I really enjoyed my week on the Orchid but it was my first liveaboard so I had nothing to compare it to. It was a bit tired in places, but the food was good and plenty of it, the diving was excellent (got 18 dives in even after losing a full day to a Flyjet delay), and our guide "Mohamed" was spot on. All the staff were really friendly and kept everyone entertained - but be prepared to get roped into some dressing up and pole dancing

Hope that helps
