Exmouth Navy Pier

I'm off to Perth and Ningaloo reef at the beginning of June.
I've inquired about diving the pier & you have to book it through the Exmouth Visitors centre at $120 a dive or $180 for two dives.
Pretty bloody steep for a shore dive. Is it worth my hard earned pennies and as good as it's cracked up to be?

It's not worth 120 bucks. I've done it a couple of times. Viz is normally crap, think 5m. There is a lot of life as it's protected, but there's not 120 bucks worth of life. I'd check if there are alternatives to dive with, though it varies who's allowed to dive it.

Do Busselton jetty in the south. Much cheaper. Loads of fish.

$120 for a single dive?

Ridiculous!! Bear in mind that's now about 55 quid. It might be long as piers go, but it doesn't reach halfway to Indonesia.

Come to Tassie, the Bicheno Dive Centre will put you in the Governor Island Marine Reserve for $45 a dive, or Tassie Devil (Mick Davies), off this forum will take you out to dive caverns and a seal colony (in the same spot) for about $150, and that includes lunch and about 40kms+ round trip in his charter boat.

I know you aren't coming here, wrong end of our northern colony for a start but it makes me wonder how they get away with those sort of prices.

Frankly, I reckon many of the tourism hotspots here, especially the so-called "icons" are a bloody ripoff - it's an absolute disgrace.

Cheers for the replies.
Busselton is on my To Do list as I skipped it on my last trip to Yallingup and it's a bit cold down that way at this time of year. Way cheaper too.
Cheers Richard, that has definately put Tassie on my radar for the next trip

The cost of diving Exmouth Navy Pier is down to the Government, courtesy of the Department of Defence. When they reopened the pier after its recent paint job they hiked up the fees paid by the charter operators, added increased insurance requirements and loaded on a whole bunch of extra safety issues that all cost, that cost is then passed onto the visiting diver.

That said, Everybody that I've spoken to says that it is a fantastic dive. I haven't done it myself yet but am hoping to get up that way in June for a week of diving and will have to bite the bullet, hand over the readies, and do the dive.

It's a good dive, especially for a night dive, but isn't amazing. On reflection, I don't know if it is worth that sort of money but it is quite novel and there is tons of fish life. The entry off the platform is something you won't foget in a hurry...

Was about a 4/5m drop one of the times I did it....just depends on the state of the tide. Definately worth diving - loadsa stuff under there including a few wobbegones lying on the seabed so watch where your flapping your fins.

How about Exmouth Pier UK? A bit of life, some scrap metal and parking on the pier for about £3. Must be done at slack though.

No? OK, fair enough

No worries, give me a shout if you decide to pay a trip here, could show you around a bit.

(Oh and Keith W - I've now got a bigger boat - took her out and dived off her today for the first time - a great improvement.)

The on in NW Aus has to be done at slack too. They've got the second biggest tides in the world up there. We had to bounce the boat off the sand one morning to get out.
