Mosquitos at Shagra?

The countdown is on, we're off to Marsa Shagra on Wednesday

However, in Dahab (October) last year the mossies were numerous and very painful. I've not heard any mention of them in Shagra so I'm just wondering if I need to stock up on the Jungle Formula?

You were lucky - I was bitten to bits a couple of years ago.

I hope things have improved. I suspect they have.

Yes, there are mosquitos there. Bring some DEET, or a mosquito net.

we took loads of repellent and coils etc. Ended up not using a thing. There for a week in August and out of the four of us, none of us got bit once (we were staying in the tents)

If I went again, i wouldnt take anything. My husband normally gets eaten alive and he was fine.

Sandflies may bite, but we never had a problem with them either (and they normally like me!!)

I've never had a problem when staying in the tents and only the occasional bite when staying in the Madyafahs. There are bound to be a few around the Madyafahs as the gardens are heavily watered each day, so the standing water will attract egg laying mosquitos and produce new ones... They do spray an insecticide fog each day but it cant totally erradicate the problem. I'd take a mosquito net and a hank of parachute cord to rig it from.

As I lived in Shagra for 3 years and mosquitos love me, here is some expert advice ))

Yes there are mosquitos in Shagra. The closer you are to gardens (public area, restaurant terraces, huts and chalets), the more you run the risk to get eaten.

Keep the windows open with mosquito netting in place (is already there) and don't leave doors open too long with the lights on inside. To pack a bottle of Deet will not hurt. Or ask the reception to have housekeeping spray the room/tent with insecticide at dinner time or so...

Kind regards,

Harriet
