    Cayman Islands

    Hello Folks
I am planning a trip to the Cayman Islands next year and hoped there maybe persons out there who could tell me a thing or two?

I will be traveling with my missus who doesn’t dive so I will be looking for a 4 – 5 Star hotel/resort and do all my diving from the shore or via day boat.

When in your opinion is the best time of year to go?
Should I stay on the main Island or one of the Sister Islands?
Any particular dive sites I should visit?
    Preferred dive operator?

My missus was keen on the Seychelles but other than the Whale Sharks in August – October I haven’t seen much to get excited about??

What do you think; Cayman or Seychelles??

    Cheers

I've not been to the Seychelles so can't comment on them, but I've been to Grand Cayman a couple of times (did my OW training there the first time I went). The diving I did was mainly shore diving with loads of marine life (fish, turtles, barracuda, corals galore), dropping over the wall into the Cayman trench so you could pick your depth, and was absolutely stunning IMHO.

Check out what time of year is 'hurricane season' - you'll want to avoid that

I've not stayed on the smaller islands, but I'd check out whether there's much to do there - if your missus is easily bored, Grand Cayman is probably the better option AFAIK (though I spent my time diving, so not too sure!)

I'm trying to remember who it was I dived with, I think it was Divetech - www.divetech.com - but that was 10 years ago, so I can't really comment on what they're like now. At the time they were certainly very good and had tech diving facilities as well as the usual stuff for holiday divers.

One thing to bear in mind - Cayman is not cheap in the slightest! It gets an awful lot of very rich Americans, and lots of cruise ships, and is geared very much towards their custom.

    HTH,
    Amy.

I've got a couple of books on the marine life around the Cayman Islands which I bought for a trip which never happened - happy to sell them on for a fraction of their price!
