| Mary Celeste A programme about the mystery of the Mary Celeste is being aired on Wednesday at 8.00pm on Channel 5. Despite the mystery of this ship sailing so far without anyone at the helm but what explanation could be given for no one being found on board. If it was disease or famine then surely there would be remains on the ship.. unless they threw each person overboard and the last person threw himself overboard which is highly inprobable given that you'd need strength to drag yourself anywhere. Anyone have any pre-airing theories? |

CREW: la la laaaaaahhhh! It's CONGA night for.... SPLOSH!!!! And so ended the last voyage of the Marie Celeste... ATB calski

| I was on a sailling boat going from São Miguel island to Formiga islands near Santa Maria (in the Azores). This was where she was last sighted. Anyway the skipper was telling us the story and I wasn't feeling all that comfortable during the trip! It seems that they opened the hatch of the storage deck where the alcohol fumes poured out. They thought it was going to blow and jumped ship (on a small boat). The rest is history.... I work with fortified wine and can assure that the brandy fumes are colourless but are highly flamable.

| saw this a year ago the theory is that the cargo they were carrying was unstable and had toxic fumes so they tied a boat to the rear and feed out some line, apparently the line broke loose and the crew was lost. the ship carried on as there was no one there to drop the sails i think thats about it
