Hello folks.

I've just registered on YD although I've been aware of it for some time through the Divernet forum.

Did two dives on the Clyde on Saturday. The second was on the Ahdeek and the first was on what I was told was the GlenShee. Having searched for information on "The GlenShee" I'm unable to find anything.

My question is this. Is there a wreck on the Clyde called The GlenShee or do you think this should be the Glensheil? We launched from Troon  and I was told it was about 4.5 miles out. I know the wreck was carrying coal when it sunk as I've now got a bit!

Thanks for any help.

/Colin

<font color='#000080'>Hi Colin

Welcome mate.
Peter K will be able to help you with the wreck name.
He seems to be the local expert.
The piece of coal mate, have you declared it to ROW? and if it’s over 100 years old it is of archaeological interest.
ROW will have to find the owner and ask them if they want to buy it back.
If not they will have to try and find a museum to take it.
“It’s the law”

Cheers mate
Enjoy the boards
Bob

Hi Colin, it probably was the Glen Sheil, she was carrying 215 tons of coal when she sank, she would be fairly intact and lying on her Port Side at about 25 mtrs, position is 2.75 mls WNW of Ayr Harbour at 55d29m09.7N / 04d43m04.7W

Hope that helps!

click on the quote box at the right hand corner of the posting that you want to quote.
You then get two boxes the lower one has the quote in it and you can delete the bits you don't want.
Then write the message in the upper box.

Preview post twice to see full post.
Cheers
Bob

ps. move your smilie at least one space away from your last letter type.
As I have done it in your quote.

The only boat that I know of that works that far down is Tony Wass's Old Offshore 32 &quot;Claire Gail&quot; I think its called. Tony works from Girvan, I've dived with him a few times down that way on the &quot;Esbo&quot; 35m, which was quite good and round Alsia which was pretty shite. We were supposed to dive with him in May but got blown out so did the Wallachia and Akka with our club boat instead
The weather is much more critical when you get South of the Cumbraes as the sea opens up and is more exposed to winds from all directions, where as North of the Cumbraes you can usually get enough shelter to do some of the wrecks.

Colin, Welcome to YD and I reckon it was the Glen Shiel. I've never heard of a wreck called the Glen Shee. It is highly possible that there is one somewhere as a lot of the Clydebuilt ships were named after Glens. I've never heard of the wreck of it though.

Kev.

I think I've dived her before but can't remember anything about her.
