My first open water dive

Wasn't sure where to post this but did my first open water dive on Monday on 'The Greek' off St Anne's Head, West Wales.

What can I say, it completely blew me away. Sea was pretty calm and the vis was about 8m. The previous boat from our club had put a shot right on the boilers and we dropped in on that and had a good 45mins finning around what is a pretty spread out wreck. We found the heavy chain of the anchor and some of the more intact sections of the ship and saw plenty of starfish, urchins etc. Max depth reached was 12.5m. All in all a pretty perfect first dive. Nice, clear and easy and left me gagging for the next one.

Glad you enjoyed it I felt pretty much the same after my first UK sea dive. I'd only planned to learn so I could dive on holiday but was hooked after the dives I did out of Weymouth.

Cheers/Nic

Don't wrestle with a pig. You'll only get as dirty as the pig & the pig likes it

Cheers Nic. I thought it would be a bit of a shock going straight from the pool to rolling off the back of a RIB on to a wreck but it was just awesome.

Congratulations on your first dive. Still waiting to do mine. Club i am with only got one dive left at sea this year to the Farne Islands to watch the seals but full. So will probably have to wait for next years round of trips.

It seems to with my local club I am looking at others though hoping to find one that continues. I have a craving for more diving now i have started and like all cravings they need feeding.

If only we could bottle the excitement that first open water dive gives .....

Mind you occasionally that same feeling comes back later when you have further really magical dives. Howard Payne and I had pretty much the same feeling last week diving the Moldavia.

Thanks for sharing and don;t forget to come back and tell us about the next dive

Mal
