Only the forward third of the pressure hull remained last time I did it. On the last time that I dived it, there was a lot of rusty metal edges about and german (broken) crockery around the wreck. It was apparent that more of the pressure hull had disappeared, probably due to explosives but that is a guess. The crockery certainly wasnt there on previous dives. Was a bit dis-heartning. I have had 12metres viz on this wreck. I dont remember it being particularly silty as its a sand/shell seabed. I have a feeling it also lies across the tidal flow so fairly easy to shot.

Its a nice wreck and I hope it hasn't been blown up more.
A big swell can churn it up too.

If you are diving it a report would be nice.

Gary
Report now up.

Thanks for the report Nick, nice to have some firm info. on the current state of the wreck. The conning tower was intact some 20 years ago so I don't think it was removed by the navy. Often considered going back to it but reports about the state varied greatly. Thanks again

I was told the Navy blasted the conning tower off to attempt to access the mine field maps, clearly incorrect if you have dived the site and seen the tower in place.

Ron - any thoughts???

Odd shell........last time I dived it (August this year) a fellow diver lifted a live shell and transported it home with him!
It was 'fizzing' on the boat so who only knows what state it was in when he got home - there were plans to make it safe (I hope he was joking)!

Hi Nick

Haven't seen anything in writing about that; I know the boat was well depth charged by at least two destroyers and divers were sent down.

Cheers Ron
