I love this dive. Did it twice in August 2006 and my log says there were masses of fish on the reef. We descended onto the wreck, did a couple of swim-throughs and then gradually ascended up the reef. Watch out for the stonefish at 7m - his camouflage is crap so he stands out quite well. Each to their own I know but I enjoyed it more than the Thistlegorm although I can't work out why...

Do it!

I've dived the Dunraven a dozen times and love it. It's not really a wreck dive, but the life on it never fails to be stunning.

The best one was a night dive. Even though we missed the wreck, we had a superb dive along the reef.

If you're not a depth junkie, try to get to The Alternatives near Shark/Yolanda. This is a 'must take camera' dive. Not deep, but with stunning coral pinacles and loads of life. My brother & I had a fantastic dive there last year and got some great photos of a huge Napolean Wrasse and an Emperor Angel fish at a cleaning station.

Have a great trip, Chris

Its an empty hull upside down, bit of a honeypot for the dayboats out of Sharm. Put it this way 'its a dive' but not one that i'd go to the effort of going out of my way for again. Theres a good spot for a photograph though next to the propellor!

Yep good dive and nice reef alongside, so plenty to do. Nice location too
which means you get the choice of at least two other sites on the way
back.

One thing that always get's me is that if you look up at the reef face you
can still see the mark where she hit and in a lot of places the coral still
hasnt returned. Considering how old this is, it's a reminder how fragile the
reef can be.

Oh, quick numpty question, whereabouts would I have to look to see where she hit (other than up )?

Well that would be pretty much in-line with the hull and yes you will have
to look up.

Ahhhhhhh, knew it was a stupid question but the actual stupidity of it only dawned as I read your reply.

Shuffles off to hang head in embarrased shame.
