There is also a post in that link that will give you a very approx guide to the size of the ship from the quantity of boilers - as long as it has a triple expansion engine. .

Porthole

Mark, I have a porthole that looks very similar to yours. I am trying to identify the ship my porthole comes from but I do know from the items we are recovering that it is late 1800's.
The part of the porthole I have is the frame the inside opening is 265mm diameter, the flange (the part with the hinge, and the holes for fixng) is 52mm wide. The frame of mine is very badly distorted ( the ship I have been diving met a violent end).
What yours has and mine does not is an extra hinge and threaded bar which I am assuming it is for a deadlight.
