On the where to start bit get a copy of the Admiralty charts, 3315 & 2610 or the bigger 2454 (for the Portland area), a bit of reference material and start looking for where there are inconsistencies, or the plain unknowns, start coming up.
I really have only just started playing at this myself, an I'm using the Wrecksite website, Dive Dorset a couple of other bits and what I can find on the web. I'll expand the reference material as I go along.
The other thing is to look for the trips that go hunting - the "West based forum" is one and Steves put trips up on here.

Do not despise the snake for having no horns, for who is to say it will not become a dragon! So may one just man become an army.

aha.....No secrets! The numbers and info will be published and everything i have will be put in the public domain! All the wrecks are charted anyway...
I'll just have to sort out a shortlist of wrecks and we'll go from there. The only thing i want to do post dive is to get together, gather any info and get it put onto the Hydrographic Office database for all to see......

Steve,
I reckon you need some dates, and you can start off a list.
Personally I'd be very up for it, there's too many dives on the local easy wrecks that skippers dive every week, and to be honest most of the really good dives I've done have been on wrecks I've never heard of and are rarely dived by anyone, if at all.
Plus if it does turn out to be a huuuuge rock, everyone knows the deal anyhow.
Digs.
