    Gambling?

Very annoying right now that I missed out on £1000 with a £1 bet, just because Aston Villa couldn't be bothered to beat West Ham!!

Just wondered if anyone else had any stories of close calls when gambling? I'm sure between the masses there must be a fair few pounds nearly won/lost with small decisions, and probably make my little flutter appear tiny! (its a lot of money for a student!)

(and for the purpose of this thread, using a pony isn't considered as a dangerous gamble )

Well, considering they drew with Wolves, it appears you weren t as close as you think.
Last week I had £5 on Man City to beat Chelsea 4-1 and Tevez to score first. That was 500-1
A few years back in the same season I had £20 on Fowler first goal Man City to beat Trafford Rovers 3-1 at 66-1 , Shaun Wright Phillips scored the 4th in injury time.Next game we played Everton(I think) and had the same on a 3-0 second half score.Shaun Wright Phillips again scored City s 4 th in injury time.

If it makes you feel better I was escorting some Wolves 'supporters' from Witton Station to the away stand today in my professional capacity when one of the little 17yr old ASBO darlings projectile vomited about 8 pints of lager all over three of his mates!

It was a YouTube moment... I just wished I had a video camera!

Gambling is for mugs. Simple. I've not had any near misses, but then I've not pissed hundreds of pounds up the wall either. Missing out on £1K vs what you've lost over the years? I'd rather keep my cash.

    Digs.

I can beat that. Day out at Pontefract races several years ago. not really a gambling man so only betting £10 a race for the first 5 races. Lost every one and decided to recoup some of the money by not placing the £10 that my lovely missus had given me to place on a horse called Tillymint in the last at 33-1. Lets be honest, it was a rank outsider in a field of 10. It was never going to win was it? It only bloody did, by 3-4 lengths. Now i'm out of pocket the £50 that I bet and £330 that my missus was most insistant on collecting. It turned a quite bad day into a "teetotal for a month" day. In future, the best thing to do is place the bloody bet and accept your losses.
    Cheers

The opposite side of the coin, a gambling story of luck rather than misfortune. A bet I took for £2 that won the pensioner of 80+ £26,000
