In light of recent discussions I here by state that in the event of my death being cause by an underwater event I give full consent, in fact positively encourage discussions to take place and facts reported in the hope that others may avoid the same demise.
Please bear in mind my wife will read the thread, she does read YD but does not post so please conduct such discussions with respect.
If others share the same view then please add your name to this thread for future reference and avoidance of doubt should the worse happen.
I'm an organ donor, as I want to help someone after I go. Why should information be any different?
As long as any discussion of my death helps people to avoid the same then feel free to discuss.
I hearby request that should i cop it underwater, that any discussion on my demise is gifted to the community with the proviso that the mods post on my behalf evey other post with profanity of any kind cos i'll find that really funny. Please think of it as 'Death Tourettes'.
Diving is like a Saturday night out on beer, mostly good harmless fun, but sometimes inexplicably even for the wise, things can really get out of hand, I would expect it to be treated the same way if it happens...
Learn what you can should I fail to make it back and discuss if freely ... though to be fair I can guess the point to be learned would be "the stupid bugger got stuck because he tried getting through too small a hole!"
No problem if someone should read and learn anything from my demise , that can not be a bad thing , I Simon Gardener do hereby give my full consent to openly discuss any incident that involves me be it hospitalisation or fatal.

+1 as hypocritical as it may sound. My wife would of the opinion that whatever's said, it won't bring me back. I'd have no problem with discussion of the incident, speculative or otherwise, wherever I thought some good would come out of it or not. It's just that I wouldn't automatically assume the same of others. I was impressed with how measured and articulate most of the points of view were made and responded to without it descending in to chaos.
So says Gary Legge of Granthamisshitefordshire.
If lost at sea, I'd quite to stay there so don't look too hard.
This isnt such a daft idea....of course it'd be better if you were carrying cards. maybe something created by an interested party with a link... like say, oh I dunno... DISMS...
What good would the card do? The forum can't see your card? Where do you carry it? Who hands it on to who in order to start the thread? What about if you are not found?
Or, do you mean hand over the whole responsibility to DISMS, whom then have to post a thread (where??) to say Joe Bloggs has pegged it, he carried a card, chat on?
It is something I had thought about and had planned to speak to the donor people about how to put something like this in place. DISMS card and 'donor' card on the back. Finding time is a challenge at the moment...
The advantage of having such a card (and on a register somewhere) is that people who are there with you will know...not everyone reads this forum.
In the meantime, why not provide some immediate feedback to the mistakes you have already made here...http://www.divingincidents.org
I want you all to write nice stuff about me and then you can discuss anything you like.
There has been a tragedy in Weymouth over the last few days - 3 fishermen have died and everyone has been talking about it. How could it happen? What might have sunk the boat? Did they have safety equipment? All this gossip does not detract from the fact that the community has lost three hard working, well liked lads and it does not sound disrespectful to discuss it. I do think YD is a tad sensitive at times. Why not discuss the subject that fills most of us with fear? And why not share information that might help the rest of us think harder about safety or issues we haven't considered?
So if I bite the dust, discuss all you like. I honestly don't mind.
+1
If the deduction is that I was an idiot and won a Darwin please use me as a scare story to teach others to be more careful.
There is a note to this effect on the covering letter attached to my will so my son, also a diver, knows this.
Sadly the reality is that the vast majority of accidents are known/stupid mistakes. As pete rightly said, whats most important at the time of the accident is that the dependants dont get shafted by some bottom living insurance arsehole. Secondary to that is our 'right to know'..... if we get that its great, but it shouldnt be at the expense of the dependants.
oh and feel free to analyse me if I croak, I'll be the first to admit I probably did something dumb.
I have previously posted elsewhere on this forum that if anything happens to me, diving or otherwise, that I will be very offended if members of this, and other forums, do not discuss what a knob I was. Maybe it will help to save another life, but even if the information is of no use as a warning to others, I hereby permit, neigh demand, that you rip the piss out of me in death, just as you all have during my life. My friends and family will understand and will undoubtedly be doing the same.
I want to be buried at sea, so don't mind if I am left down there. Feel free to use my corpse as a lobster attractant, it would only be a fair payback.
To be honest I really hope I go due to a viagra-induced heart attack on my 90th birthday about 5 hours into a threesome with the twin grand-daughters of Scarlett Johansen.
I'd really like that to be talked about
On the off chance I do suffer something water related, chat away.
I can't agree more !
If I make an almighty balls up of something, or even a unforeseeable acciden, and some I could help save someone's life through the discussion then I would be happy but for the sake of my family I would ask for a respectful discussion
Add me too, Rik Girdler masquerading as 'tufty' - also in the event of a body recovery leave it for medical science (so at least some bugger might learn sommat)
In the event of my clogs being popped in a diving related incident, I hearby leave all my worldly goods to the Mrs, and all the speculations, chat, fun poking, I told you so's and my overdraft to the YD massive. Make what you can of it, and learn from me hope you particularly like the overdraft, please share nicely
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
