Hello all divers
i recently started diving. Bought all the gear from my local dive shop. I had just over a thousand pounds in my budget, but this didn't allow for training so i'm a little snookered on that front. So decided to train myself, managed to buy a padi booklet from a charity shop and have begun training in my local river and reservoir. Things are going fine but the main problem i have had is being able to sink. I have bcd & bottle, i'm wearing 5mm wetsuit then boots & fins, but just can't sink. When i breath in or out i anage to go down a little but for the majority struggle to get under. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Could be pushing up the daisies the way you are going. Try listening to all the good advice on here and get yourself some proper training & qualification. If you still insist on trying to do it yourself then get your will made - it will make things a bit easier for everyone you leave behind.
Well what an afternoon in the reservoir. I feel like writing a proper trip report. Anyway i managed an incredible depth of 22metres and then came straight back up. Visibility was very bad down there. Wanna go back tomorrow but my wetsuit's given me a proper bad skin rash. Anyway still alive and intend on keeping it that way.
yes and we are still doing it. have you thought about getting a waterproof case for your iPad? that way you could take it in with you and watch instructional videos much better than books I am not sure how deep you can take it though.
Rob, this sport is not like running or swimming. You cannot just dive with a manual and some self practice. A silly mistake can lead you to be on a wheel chair for the rest of your life if you are lucky. It will cost you more than £400. Don't play with your life, we are not defending a status here, just want you to be aware of the risks. It's for your own safety. There are plenty of dive centers that you can discuss this and I think there are financial facilities you can deal with.Think more than just money, please.
Hi Rob this is got to be a wind up if you are going to carry on trying to teach your self try down loading the BASC incident reports it is on their web site, incidents are there to help people to learn from trained divers mistakes and un a voidable mishaps. To get you self bent will hurt, the worst your family will have to visit your funeral not nice. Don't forget we all use life support equipment and that is what it means, most of the post before this one all advise you the same get trained.
I have not been on here for quite awhile just out of interest was looking through started to read this and found it very entertaining
I will say that one of the reasons I have not visited this site for quite awhile is the pure simple criticism you get
I personally think this person is just here to wind you up if he is not here to wind you up is going to make his own fate anyway
I will say that I feel that this guy has not gone through as much crap I would've gone through two years ago or three years ago
And that is including I passed all my qualifications 30 odd years ago and was still being told how to read the book however I think people here have actually been very subtle this gentleman and most of the critical people in the past I've got bored and gone on to something else good entertainment very enjoyed myself.
The criticism I'm referring to is my diving practices and my spelling of course
I remember some of that.
It's all changed here now. The dive police have regrouped elsewhere since this forum changed ownership.
Much quieter but still has a pulse
Oh yeah forgot what I was actually coming on the site 4 to find out if anyone has been to die show and if it was worth going down several searches no one seems to be talking about it all my incompetence cannot find it could someone directly to any comments on what they think of it thank you
I'm in Tenerife now and just booked my diving for tomorrow.
Buying a wing after trailing one last trip and I was hoping that Rob could give me some pointers.
I like his no nonsense approach.
I think we could all learn from it.
Think for ourselves rather than follow some self proclaimed guru...
Sorry did not even notice it was spelt that way this is one of the problems I was getting on many occasions hence the reason but I posted on my profile the reasons that sometimes words would be spelt incorrectly and the reasons why thanks for pointing that out and I'm sure it was what it says
Because no one I know has come back to let me know thanks did make me chuckle
Rob I will be your diving buddy and I will just use my james bond bamboo shoot to breath with. lol
