    Question automatic reply to emails

Currently use XP Pro with Outlook Express to retrieve emails .What I want is to set up my email to generate an automatic response to any email recieved .I know it can be done because I've recieved them myself such as " Sorry the office is closed till after xmas we will reply when we return "
So how can I do this ?
Do I need any additional software ?
Or is it not possible using outlook express !
    TIA
    Colin

    From MS Help online:
How to Define a Rule to Send an Automatic Reply in Outlook 98, in Outlook 2000, and in Outlook 2002

1.On the Tools menu, click Rules Wizard.
2.In the Rules Wizard dialog box, click New.
3.Under Which type of rule do you want to create?, click Start from a blank rule, click Check messages when they arrive, and then click Next.
4.Under Which condition(s) do you want to check?, click to select the Sent Only To Me check box or any other criteria that you want, and then click Next.
5.Under What do you want to do with the message?, click to select the Reply using a specific template check box.
6.Under Rule Description, click the underlined phrase, a specific template.
7.In the Select A Reply Template dialog box, click the template that you saved in step 5 of "How to Define an Automatic Reply Template," and then click Open.
8.Complete the Rule Wizard instructions, click Finish, and then click OK.
    HTH, TBH.

    or a easier way

from outlook - Tools - Out of office assistant

two check boxes one in the office and one out of the office.

Just type in your message in the box.

please bear in mind that if you use out of office assistant you either need to have microsoft exchange server running the background to process the rule, or leave Outlook express constantly connected so that it processes the incoming emails.

Now we get ten people asking how to set up OE to delete all these annoying replies we get from somebody who wasn't there.

I have twenty different entries in my killfile for that.

As it turns out, there is even a thunderbird html signature generator. If I had not seen the result, I would have thought that this is nonsense. And I fell for a correctly composed email signature. It turns out that very few people use this to promote their company. So use it before it gets mainstream!
