I have finished my postage stamp collection , ironed my anorak and am now on the hunt for the obscure and unusual....BUT....before anyone sends me some lesser know Eastern European 'specialist interest' web sites can I just say I'm sticking with diving for the purposes of this thread!

It's a simple and honest request about PADI Distinctive Specialty Courses.

It's not hard to find out about their Specialty courses but oddly it is hard to find out about their Distinctive Specialties.

Distinctive Specialties are usually only offered in one specific location and are therefore not widely accessible. PADI make this harder by not listing or providing much info on these courses (believe me, I've asked).

What I'd like to hear about is Distinctive Specialties that YD members are aware of, what they are and where they are being run and by whom - why? Well I just said I'd ironed my anorak! Any excuse to go places!

I am aware about the Recompression Awareness DS, the Whale Shark DS, an Oxygen Use DS and I've even heard of a Pearl Diving DS being run in Dubai (I think!) . I might even be persuaded to send out some greens if there are some useful posts.

Cheers in anorak anticipation !

TDC in Portsmouth were the first in the UK to offer the Reel & SMB Course - extremely worth while. They also offer Full Face Mask, O2 provider and a newly aquired Twinset Diver. Soon to come will be Shore Diver too.

I've also heard of River Diver in Cairns (believe CDC are the host) and Underwater Basket Weaving (urban legend or real deal?) and their is also Extreme Ironing......

I've done the "Chamber Awareness Specialty" at the DDRC is Plymouth. A great day out and a real eye opener on the work that goes on down then.

We have also done a Club trip to the Blue Planet Aquarium and completed "The Shark Awareness Specialty.

For those of you that work in a Dive Centre and are aware of EVE (Electronic Virtual Employee) its a Dive Centre Management peice of Software. Well... you can do a distinctive in that as well by the company that wrote it!

We have been thinking of writing one for our new staff called the "How to pack a Dive Van correctly rather than just throwing stuff in"... Specialty "! :teeth:

ah, the "Dispatch Manager Distinctive Specialty" also known as "Do it my way or I'll throw a PADDY distinctive specialty" (clever play on words eh???)

what about, for those who are thinking of writing a distinctive specialty, a "How to write a Distinctive Specialty" distinctive specialty????
