2009 YD Calendar

I have had PM from Gloc.

He has offered to liaise with other YD photographers and produce a 2009 calendar. this is the PM he has sent round...

I'm sure it will be good - as we haven't sorted any calendar out yet, and other than the naked men, i don't think YD has ever done one :D

Shall we just ask him to sort it? No doubt he will come to one of us if he needs input. i will get the RNLI to agree the logo on it as well.

Guys, (Morag For Info)

I had a quick chat with Morag earlier about putting together a 2009 calendar to raise funds for the RNLI.

I am happy to run with the organisation of getting the calendars sorted but I needed some additional photographers, and this is why I have dropped you a line as some of the top photographers on YD.

Whilst I could probably fill a calendar with my wreck shots, wrecks don't appeal to everyone so I thought that we might spread the subjects around as I don't do wildlife or squidies

I was thinking of 6-9 shots per person on a subject that you excel at. We would judge the submissions between ourselves and select 3 per photographer for the calendar. For the front cover, we could put an additional image in (making 4) and then get YD to vote from the 16 for the front cover.

I am not sure what calendars cost to produce, what the minimum order is and what people are likely to pay for one, but if you guys are up for contributing I can get the ball rolling.

What do you say?

We can't afford to buy them for the shops - we are only having one print run (I think).
I thought the plan was to get a set number printed and sell them via YD and any that didn't sell could go to various lds? Not printing extra to go to the lds, so we wouldn't be buying them for the shops, we'd be using the shops to sell the surplus.

Would he stock them if, say, we said to buy some for £8, and sell them for £10? might be a bit more of an incentinve for them?
No, he doesn't want to risk getting left with a bunch of expensive calendars, that he's paid for but can't sell, they'd also have to go through the books then too.

Well if we do get left with a surplus, they will help us get rid of them.

Yep - but AFIUI, there is a minimum print run. We know how many are comitted to buying via YD, and the sponsorship money is paying for the set up costs. What we get from an LDS (say if he wanted 10) at £8 each, he can sell on for £10, making a couple of quid on each one. RNLI gets £80 for the sale of those. If he wants to sell them all for £8, then that is his choice.
Well if we are just ordering the exact number required, it's not an issue.

I was talking to them about getting rid of the surplus we may have.

ie, if there were 120 on YD that wanted a calendar and we'd bought 200 (the number Gloc mentioned we need to sell to make it worthwhile), we'd have 80 to get rid of elsewhere.

I've spoken to two lds and neither will pay us for the calendars, but will stock and sell them on our behalf if they don't get left with the potential to be out of pocket but they are not interested in making any profit out of them either, so £8 makes no difference.

If we don't want to allow that, it's fine, I'll tell them and we can leave it at that :)

But as I said, if we are ordering the exact number required, it's not an issue anyway.

I don't think we are ordering the exact number. There is a minimum print run (I think it is 200 for the costs we have). If YD buy 120, yep, we will have 80 left over. I don't see a problem, really, in giving the surplus to some LDS's, if they don't want to buy them from us, fair enough.

I think we will have them a couple of weeks after the template goes to the printers, so it should be fairly soon.
OK, so I will tell them that I will let them have some on a sale or return basis.

If they sell them all I will take them some more and collect the cash if they don't I can pick the calendars back up.

Arfie
Sounds like a plan.
Oooops, I thought SDS which I had in my sponsor list was SDS Watersports, Ukdivver from ScubaDivingStore) just contacted me. If David is onside tomorrow, we are sorted.

Thanks for all your support.
He's just texted me back to say he's away until the weekend, but said he'd reply to you and send the cheque then.

But you've now confused me, if SDS is sorted (you numpty!) then there is no space for Pro4Sport is there?

Nope, I will bin LHC
Ah OK.

I'd suggest you drop Dave an email on Monday morning to remind him, he has a "hectic" life and if it's not in his blackberry, there is a good chance he'll forget.

Arfie
SDS still have about half a dozen calendars and no signs of them shifting.

Should they drop the price to sell them or do you want them back?

Any other idea's?

Probably drop the price to £7.50 and see what happens. I will also email Darren at NDAC as I noticed there were a load still for sale at the weekend there too.

And at my LDS

We could put something on YD for those who didn't get their order in and have now decided the want one.
Okay, is £7.50 a good price or go lower to shift them?
I'd have just gone for a fiver, but we can always drop them again I suppose.

I am happy with the a fiver, 50 at a fiver is better than nought!

The only issue I can think of is that Vobster paid up front for theirs...I can ask Amy if they have any left but what if they do?

Regards
A fiver is good for me

If they paid for them up fornt, it is their choice what they do. They can give them away, and it is a donation fromt hem. it might be worth giving them a call and seeing what they want to do - it is their call
I'll call SDS today then.

As for Vobster if they bought them up front then they are their "problem" if they want to give them away it's their choice, the RNLI has got it's money.

I would post that there are still some available in case anyone on YD wants to take one?

Arfie
Okay. I'll ring Amy and make an announcement on the Calendar thread to bring it back to the top.
