For those of you who were worried, worry no more. ROBERT BEALE is alive and well and has started posting again on Divernet (Buddy Forum).

There was a very lengthy thread about his antics back in June (ish). I think it was on this forum....you can find out all you need to know from that....

I'll see if I can find it....

Not sure if this will come up as a link but copy paste and you'll be at the start of the previous thread.

I personally can't comment but when I was back in the UK at Stoney in July, I mentioned his name, as he'd approached me to buddy up with him, and I was told to check this thread. I never got a chance to meet him...might be a great bloke...

Regards.

Well ive dived with Rob 3/4 times in the last twelve months.  I can vouch for his logged dives as he is the only buddy ive dived with who makes you inc. your qual number in his logbook.  I too think he has had a hard time on here and dnet but i dont know if there is any truth in the no show allegations.  It  doesnt sound like Rob to let so many peeps down but who knows, i like others have suggested he posts a defence but so far no details have been posted.  Certainly havent had that experience myself.  I would dive with him again just I already have a couple of other buddies who I dive with.  I would dive with him again.  Its just the infuraiting text messages u get aye.

The ones that don't refer to any of yours?  The ones you get just before you never hear from him again?  The ones from the phone number with perma-voicemail?

Yup.  Infuriating probably covers it.

He should be proud to be the source for the latest verb in the English language!

He may well have had a hard time but at least laterontoday has made contact and dived with him.

Hopefully he'll be able to return to YDivers and everyone will give him the benefit of the doubt.

He did read the thread last time as he posted a defence so maybe he'll make himself more contactable in the future and be less trigger happy with those texts which I think everybody received.

I've got nothing against him but I think others might have but as I said, maybe he might get the benefit of the doubt...he could always change his name on YDivers.

Giving him the benefit of the doubt here, it is possibly the stupid text messages and inability to actually read threads/texts and reply in detail that leads to the "no-shows", which are all too real, by the way.

If he phoned, or e-mailed and hence conversed in more than just one sentence these "confusions" might not happen.

The problem with diving is that *usually* you will want to have a buddy, and *possibly* you will have spent money on the expectation of that buddy showing.  When they don't you have wasted money and lost a dive or two, which can be more than frustrating.  People advertising for buddies are unlikely to have a ready supply to fall back on and thus his no-shows could ruin a rare opportunity.  It is only fair that folks are warned of his antics and then are free to make up their own mind.

Unfortunately his replies & attitude on Divernet just make him out to look like just the kind of guy who would no-show.  A considered, eloquent response would serve him much better.  As would not using several false names, including impersonating someone else to get revenge which has happened.

I am glad that you have had a positive experience with him, Steve, at least it means that he isn't necessarily just taking people for mugs, and he does genuinely exist.  He has become something of an urban myth!

Lou,

An urban myth.....you can say that again....when I mentioned his name at Stoney on my return trip to the UK back in June/July you should have heard the groans...seriously well known young man.

It sounds like he's not doing himself any favours on Dnet either from what you say.....I was thinking that after the previous thread on YDivers he may have caught on and changed his ways.

What are these other stories...revenge etc....doesn't sound too nice?

Cheers for now.

Hi Graham

The last thread was prompted by a "discussion" on D-net.  John Duncan, frequenter of these very boards, posted a thread on the buddy boards about being careful who you arranged to meet up with, check you are sure who they are, what quals they have etc - some general advice.  Due to an earlier thread about his no-shows a certain Mr Beale took this as a personal attack and launched into some short-tempered posts.  Then a new poster by the name johnduncan appeared and started posting rubbish.  If you checked the e-mail address of this poster it was an address with the surname Beale and the alternative alias "devondiver".  He did admit that these were all him.

Lou,

Wow...I had no idea. I had semi-agreed to dive with him on my last UK trip until I got the low down at Stoney (as previously noted). I then kept a low profile but kept getting texts for weeks after.

Thanks for the update....

Best regards.
