This royal throne of kings, this sceptred isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,-
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England.
William Shakespeare
King Richard II

Heaven take thy soul, and England keep my bones!
William Shakespeare

Oh, to be in England
Now that April's there,
And whoever wakes in England
Sees, some morning, unaware,
That the lowest boughs and the brushwood sheaf
Round the elm-tree bole are in tiny leaf,
While the chaffinch sings on the orchard bough
In England - now!!
Robert Browning
Home Thoughts from Abroad

Should the invader come to Britain, there will be no placid lying down of the people in submission before him, as we have seen, alas! in other countries. We will defend every village, every town, and every city. The vast mass of London itself, fought street by street, could easily devour an entire hostile army, and we would rather see London laid in ashes and ruins than that it should be tamely and abjectly enslaved.
Winston Churchill

You do know that the English are, in fact, mostly of German and Nordic origin and the "real" English were all pushed into Wales?
I am happy now that Charles calls on my bedchamber less frequently than of old. As it is, I now endure but two calls a week and when I hear his steps outside my door I lie down on my bed, close my eyes, open my legs and think of England.
Lady Alice Hillingdon

They (the British) are like their own beer; froth on top, dregs at bottom, the middle excellent.
Voltaire

Thats great but England is Not an Isle.
Thats great but England is Not an Isle.
I don't understand the distincion between 'isle' and 'island' but 'poetic licence' more than covers any such factual problem.

There is no difference between isle and island; they are both pieces of land surrounded by water.

Aha, You obviously don’t know crap, there’s a difference between dum crap, and aesthetic or metaphysical crap. These should not be confused with talking shite, which is a completely different bag altogether.

Hope this helps
