Was wondering if any of you had any experience with deep blue diving in plymouth - used to be up north somewhere and have moved - think there are 2 instructors phil hodson and the boss rich stevenson - what are they like as instructors and are there courses any good - they are quite expensive but i would rather pay money than go to some moron!  both seem very well qualified as instructor trainers for both iantd and tdi - any feedback please

<font color='#0000FF'>I used DeepBlue diving when they were based in Congleton, Cheshire.  I also went there to get my cylinders cleaned and serviced.  I did my gas blending with them although the instructor wasn't Richie.  I met Richie a couple of times there and he has an excellent reputation.  If I were going to do technical courses I would certainly do it with them.

Anyone out there done any courses with him - am thinking of doing the advanced nitrox course and decoprocedures and am wondering about the course content and standards - can get the basic TDI stuff but it doesn't say alot and was wondering if anyone has any experience

Dont know what he is like as an instructor but he does some serious diving and is a IT for TDI and IANTD so presume he is good.  Looked at the website and it talks about the predictable manifold shut downs and gas sharing and ascents and the like - pretty standard stuff - think the most important thing is ability to be neutral - buoyancy - and getting your bag up well - thats all quite basic stuff for the tech diving and presume he'll give you good pointers on the newer stuff.  Why dont you just give them a call and talk to him.

yes i am dinger but i am living in exile in london and miss the late opening in dub!!!!!!!!!!!!!! pubs will shut here at 11 which is just silly i never go out before then now i take a half day off work to go on the piss

Yeah - what Greg said basically. With Richie it's very much the case that the more you put into the course, the more you'll get out of it.  I turned up having done prior learning, knew my stuff and learnt a lot more besides based on his experience of going out and doing it. He places a lot of emphasis on in-water skills and ability.

thanks for all of the comments folks i have some work to do before i go on the course and some reading up too - anyone actually done the combined adv. nitrox and deco procedures with deep blue? just got kevin gurrs new book today and plan to read it cover to cover several times befroe i go on the course

Hi, Phil and Richie are both top instructors. When i started diving many years ago Phil was my Divemaster and then instructor (youngest padi instructor in uk at the time). We buddied up on over 200 dives together including deep wreck and cave diving. Phil i now believe works heading up a recompression chamber for rig divers. Richie ex navy diver and excellent instructor. i took his mixed gas course and cave diving courses in the past - would recomend both highly - if you want to go all the way to ccrb instructor or o/w diver these are the guys to see.
