We all like to winge about how much diving costs. I'm keen to see how many have actually worked out what they've spent and how much the average YDer has dropped on his sport so far.

I swallowed hard when I worked out my spending but don't regret any of it and am planning on blowing a whole lot more this weekend!

Hi Spike,

Tell me we are excluding diving holidays

Otherwise I might need to change my vote.

Daz,

And worth every penny....

Don't know and don't care, it's lots but it's all worth it, if I hadn't spent it on diving I'd only spend it on drugs, booze and loose women anyway...
and it's probably less than I spent during 15 years as a muscian anyway

Just spent £520 on dive related stuff in the past 4 days, Carpe diem! "The future is now and forever is 'if'... " (The Shamen)

Tricky one this as it includes everything over a long period of time for me.

Kit was a lot cheaper 15 years ago, but I reckon I have spent on average £1k a year on kit, membership, club diving and holidays. Like most of us, some years are more expensive than others, but I have had some bloody good holidays.

Holidays not included, but then as my teenage son dives I have to buy his kit too.

Er - can I add, new kitchen, second car, gardening costs, decorating costs, lost money due to days off work,
thought not. Think I'd have a coronary if I added THAT lot as well.
So a twin-set IS cheap really.

Matt
ps what about costs of divorce etc?

I always justify it to people who ask by saying :-

"Well once you have all the kit, it is really cheap.  Just a couple of quid for an airfill"..

But then as we all know...  You never have ALL the kit

Go on Matt, you know you want to....

Steve, only joking she loves me too much, anyway she has a good chance of getting it all as diving is soooo dangerous.

Gareth - only just starting my friend, you can never have TOO much kit.

Eeek!

Gareth
Well that's the bare essentials covered,  time you got some toys...

Matt, like Steve says...  twinset is cheaper.

Thanks Gav

They were down as a possible on my list for the dive show...  Looks like it might get bumped up the priority list.

Oh well it's only money...  Can't take it with you.

You down for Sunday?

I am going to be on the lookout for twin 7x300 bar..  and if the price is right well who knows.  Unfortunately a new drysuit is a definite but like I said "Who knows".

So if you are in on the Sunday I will PM you my mobile number or take yours.  We can have a quick scout around independantly and then meet to discuss what sort of prices are on offer with a possible view to descending a suitable store and turning the thumbscrews.

I have two twin sets and fortunatly I also have two single tanks as well

At the moment I have 19/35 in one twin set from a blown out 65m dive on the Bessal, I have 25/20 in the other twinset from a blown out 48m dive on the Nyon and I have 37% nitrox in my 12ltr single and air in the other 11ltr single.

Somewhere in amonmgst that lot I am hoping to get a dive Saterday
Depth is errrrrr undicided. It will either be 50m on the Mol or what ever depth the Stangarth is

I put 15,000+ but was including cost of diving specific trips (but not holidays) Kit wise I reckon 7k if I baught it all new.
