Dump valve pull cord length

Could someone please explain the lack of cord on my OMS right shoulder dump valve.  It is near impossible to reach quickly, so much so, it might as well not be there. I paid 10 quid for a replacement valve the other day
, the least they could do is supply a longer cord! Just wondering if this was the same with other wing manufacturers', and whether any body else has found it annoying. I mean I added a lanyard to it, so ive got sommat easier to pull if need be, shouldn't really have to though should I?!

<font color='#0000FF'>Why not just unscrew the beast, remove and replace the cord with a longer bit and put it all back together. If you are going to buy a lanyard type thing the cord in those is fine and about the right length as well !

Steve,

Yep I found it annoying too.  I replaced the cord with some suitable stuff that I had laying about and threaded it through some clear PVC piping (avail from B&Q, bout 99p) and run it down the shoulder part of the harness and under the neoprene pads.

It now works like a dream although the only time I ever use it is on the initial descent.

Same here, way too short, I rethreaded mine using some picture cord I had.  Also pinched this idea from someone else and added a fishing weight to the bottom so I could find it.  Loads lying about in the sea.

and again here, it's the frst thing most OMS owners do, quite what OMS are thinking of I have no idea...

Yeh i might undo the valve and thread it through properly, atm it could just come off I suppose.

Oh yeh and while im on the topic of wing dump valves.  I was equipment testing my new rig at capernwray the weekend before last and on DL training a few days ago, and I think the dump valves may fold over 'preventing' air to be vented easily. Just a little inconvenience really. At this point ill mention my wing is bungeed.  And erm how do I say this; I also think ive probably got the longest corrugated hose around.  So basically im having problems dumping and fully extending me hose.
. You guys reckon it's just a case of taking the top bungees off?!

Cheers
Steve

PS I like the length of my hose as it is, more manoeuvrability for different positions you see
.  Such as under the arm should the need arise.

I wear my hose under my arm and bungied to the harness too (I'm a proper stroke I am
)

But dumping from the wing isn't really an issue for me as, with correct weighting, the amount of air i use to remove squeeze is enough to make me neutrally buoyant so the wing is really only for backup and for depths in excess of 30-35metres. You may find it helpful to turn the flip the 180 degrees so that the top dump faces away from the head (once you've added the extra cord that is), that should make dumping do-able as long as you're not partially inclined head-down, in which case the lower dump will be best

OR defy convention and turn the whole wing 180°, then swap the corrugated hose with the shoulder dump to get it back to the left hand side and run it under the arm. lol
.  That way when you pull the right hand shoulder dump it would pull the valve up not down, as you say, facing away from your head.

Yeh I use my drysuit for buoyancy, however theres nothing like inflating the beast and leaning back for that lovely 100m surface swim from/to shore!
. But its venting the air on the surface to get down really.  I thought id got it all out but I was neutral-ish with a rather nasty squeeze. So I tried again and with a bit of hose jiggling got some more out of the wing.  Then unshrinked wrapped myself and was sorted!
